About this listen

Tamlin Ashowan has troubled his family for years. Between the fearfulness of his magic and his refusal to share exactly what it does, his loving parents and sister don’t know how best to guide him. Tam, on the other hand, insists he doesn’t need any assistance. Despite ignoring his magic and possessing a preference for remaining locked up in his room with a good book, Tam is determined to play his role as the heir to his dukedom to the best of his ability. But being the son of Finlay Ashowan, the famous hero of Daxaria, his life is prone to chaos.

Will a new assistant, who has even more secrets than Tam himself, be able to help navigate Tam's endless responsibilities? Will all chaos break out thanks to the unstable kingdom of Zinfera? And lastly, can Tam handle everything without having to use his magical power, or will he be pushed to new limits as his fate rushes to meet him?

Find the answer to these questions and more in the new trilogy set in the same universe as The House Witch series, The Princess of Potential, and The Burning Witch series. There's no need to listen to the previous books to enjoy the new, fun adventure. Feel free to jump right in!

The much awaited continuation of the house witches family. I do wonder if the author was pressured by the publishers to get the next book done as it doesnt seem as well written and a lot more rushed as the first two trilogies. The glaring plot hole of simply using Tams magic to get them all out of Zinfera instead of a long overland trek seems clumsy and the love story predictable. The House witch and the Burning witch trilogys were well paced, lots of twists and laughs and really well rounded characters but im struggling to care about Tam, Eli and Luca and the revelation about Tams familiar at the end just makes no sense. Im hoping now that Tam and Eli's magics are being explored after being hinted at so much in the previous books the next book in the series due out next week will be a little more interesting. Up to now Tam is a whingy wet rag terrified for years about his magic that he then masters in a few pages making him seem even more pathetic. The development of Caterinas magic and gradual exploration in the burning witch was a far more satisfying read.
Narration is as usual really good although the childs voice is annoying. A pleasant enough listen and its worth a try as it may be more to your taste but while i regularly relisten to the first two trilogies i doubt this will make the repeat list.

Enjoyable albeit predictable yarn

This book was written as an introduction to the real story. Having said that, it was hard to put down and what a cliff hanger ending!!! Hope we don’t have to wait too long for the next ones.

Must we wait…
