Summary

Wil Calder is an astronaut when his experimental spacecraft breaks down near Neptune. What a crappy way to go, don't you think? Alone in the deep dark of space.

Except that's not how the story ends, it's how it begins. He's rescued by alien smugglers, his pod sold for scrap.

Then he's given a choice; join the crew or step out the airlock without his spacesuit. Which would you choose?

Now, years later Wil is a lonely space smuggler himself looking for a crew because he's bored out of his skull.

Because it turns out, space is lonely and boring, so Wil could use some friends.

Before Wil can even enjoy having a crew to call his own, they're pushed into the center of a plot to start an intergalactic war. They had no part in starting it, and aren't remotely qualified to stop it, but here they are.

What would you do? Find a quiet bar on a backwater planet!

That's not an option for Wil and the crew of the Ghost though. Between epic space battles and a daring heist, the crew uncovers a dark secret. A secret that they can't let stay in a dark.

Did we mention that the fate of the entire galaxy rests on his shoulders? No pressure, Wil!

Space Rogue

It is fun to listen with different individuals coming together as friends and a team to accomplish something good and meaningful. The characters were well written, plot consistent, action constant, and a sense of humor present in the whole story.

Great touch of fantasy

Gives the mind a good workout, this would make a great film up there with Starwars. Thoroughly enjoyable and i look forward to book two.

Unapologetic fun without a dull moment

I requested a review copy of this book, and was very happy to do so. Full of action from the start, the story can't help drawing comparisons to farscape, but doesn't suffer from this. The wisecracking main character, and sole human, is dumped unceremoniously into the universe in a believable way and starts to shape the world around him. The narrator was a good choice and distinguishes between the various characters. My only worry is that so much happened in this first book, it could be difficult for the next book to maintain the pace.

A new space hero!!

Good book introducing Will Calder and his new crew. Good characters make this story and it's a strong start to a new series.

Well narrated, that keeps the story moving at a nice pace.

Trouble finds us

The Ghost needs a crew and the ones that find her are all magnets for trouble! Farscape meets O Brother Where art Thou in this space adventure. Solid narration with enthusiasm! I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A great introduction for Wil Calder

I love a good space opera and this one definitely fit the bill.
Really enjoyed the flashbacks to tell how Wil got from Earth, which is still not a galaxy traveling society, to being a galactic space rouge with his own battle ready space ship. These flashbacks were well done with prompts letting you know what was happening.

The story was very well put together with just the right amount of action and character building to keep you interested and looking for more. This book was hard to put down.

KC Johnston did an excellent job on the narration. Great voice differentiation and just the right tone to fit the storyline.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Clever, upbeat science fiction

Space Rogues is a clever, upbeat, humorous science fiction adventure. The first of a series, it is filled with action and populated with well described and intriguing aliens.

Next one soon!

Only complaint is the length, and that book 2 isn't out yet. We shall see what the future holds for the crew of The Ghost, hopefully sooner rather than later. Not sure this is a must listen, but it's solid like the others I've listed to from this narrator. book 2 please.

Fun Book 1

Was a fun listen. I've listened to all of KC Johnston's books thus far and just wish he had more out, makes it hard to play follow the narrator to get a new book. Space rogues was a fun book, but it's short. hope the next ones in the series get longer. overall was action packed and fast paced. interested to see how the characters progress together in the next books.

A space romp at its best

If you need techie explanations of the science in sci-fi, this one isn’t for you. But if you’re more the space cowboy type - lots of action, enough plot to be interesting, some cool and deep (ish) characters, then don’t wait. Start now!

Fun space adventure

I picked this book because of a review that compared this story to Guardians of the Galaxy and it was dead on. This tale follows Wil Calder on his adventures and misadventures through the galaxy recruiting a new crew. I had lots of fun listening to this first in the series.
