About this listen
What happens when a legacy of ruin mates with a realm of blood?
Heir to the notorious Tenebrae Outfit, Dante Maroni has been trained since birth. A silent rebel in the shadows, he has learned to hide his ruthlessness under his charm, his brutality under his suits, and his love for one woman under his silence. Infiltrating the Syndicate responsible for the missing children, Dante discovers information that shatters his reality and forces him to trigger a lethal game.
Daughter of the Maroni housekeeper, Amara has loved Dante for longer than she's known it. Abducted and tortured at the young age of fifteen, she loses herself, her life, and her home as she knows it. Years after, unknowingly protected, she's found some semblance of normalcy when her world collapses again, forcing her to join the game.
Mysteries are unraveled. Secrets are discovered. And their young love is transformed, replaced by a deep intimacy, power, and survival.
The reluctant king and inevitable queen play. An empire of death is born.
This Emperor is a contemporary dark mafia romance. It contains graphic violence and sexual content, and is therefore intended for mature listeners.

So I turned tit the audio book, again I know some people prefer duet/ dual/ multi cast but honestly the way the narration was performed in this book I could forget about thag and get absorbed in the story. This series just get so many amazing reviews I wanted to give it one last shot and I am so glad I did and will be downloading the rest do the series.
Like with most dark romances please read your triggers and there are definatly some dark events happening in this series book and although this story follows Dante and Amara you really need to read / listen to this series in order as there in a secondary plot running through all three books.
In this one we find out what actually happened to Amara when she was 15 and we learn more about the syndicate and seethe development of Amara and Dante relationship .
Wow what a story

Instead, it is the one that stays in your chest afterward.
This book is not about the trauma it is about what happens after the body survives it.
Amara’s story is quiet, steady, devastating, and deeply human. RuNyx doesn’t sensationalise her pain, and she doesn’t rush her healing. Instead, she lets us sit with the slow reconstruction of identity. where survival is not triumph, but the starting point of becoming.
What struck me most is how this book handles generational violence and inherited legacy.
Dante and Amara both come from power built on brutality but where others crumbled or became what shaped them, these two choose to break the cycle, piece by piece, choice by choice.
This is a story about:
found family that becomes anchor
loyalty that is earned, not assumed
grief that reshapes instead of ruins
love that protects without consuming
healing that does not ask for forgiveness to be “graceful”
The dynamic between Amara and Dante is never romanticized.
It’s raw.
It’s heavy.
It’s earned.
Their love grows in the empty space after violence in the silence where truth is unavoidable.
One of the quiet triumphs of the book is how RuNyx writes women! Not as softened, not as symbols, but as sovereign. Amara never breaks into pieces for the sake of emotion. She does not perform resilience. She simply is resilient.
This book reminded me that:
survival is not the end of the story - integration is.
And while I didn’t love this in the same way I felt Books 1 and 2, I think that’s the point.
Books 1 & 2 hit the nervous system.
Book 3 settles into the bones.
This isn’t the book you obsess over.
It’s the one you grow with.
A quiet, powerful reassembly of self. A necessary breath before the fire that comes next.
