Summary
Now, Hemlock is being tricked into a hazardous assignment that involves an attempt to scale one of the most treacherous mountain peaks in the Swiss Alps: the Eiger. His target is one of his three fellow climbers. The problem is that the CII can't tell him which one.
This spine-tingling adventure, part thriller and part satire, introduces an intriguing cast of villains, traitors, and beautiful women into a highly charged atmosphere of danger and suspicion that builds to a death-defying climax.

Surprised how much i enjoyed this book. Not my usual subject matter and some slightly un PC expressions but a good story well read.

A classic Trevanian
Picked this up as a freebie in the Audible Included catalogue. A classic. Perhaps bit dated now but still an enjoyable read.

Engrossing story
Kept me in the edge of my seat throughout. I felt as though I was up there on the mountain with Johnathon willing him on.

Great work
Joe Barrett narrated this fantastically, especially the voice of Bill.
The story was great and enjoyable, worked well despite it being written many years ago.
I did work it all out quite early on, but it didn't detract from it at all..

Black comedy
An espionage story set in the 1970’s. Well-paced, humorous, and well told. The characters may have an element of caricature but the slightly absurdist tone allows for this.

Enjoyable overall
Interesting tale, however I found the readers voice interpretation of the character Big Ben Bow overwhelming at first. Got used to eventually!

This is Why l Love Audible So Much
🎧 Joe Barrett gave a hell of a performance! My anxiety in listening to men battling nature was such that l had to carb load | hydrate from all the adrenaline l pumped out!! As things went to hell, phrasing became fluid, pacing irregular and JB more obviously modulated his vocals. This was a masterful contrast to the controlled and world weary performance that went before it. The narrator also made the brilliant decision to perform this seriously so the satire was maliciously sharp!! Mr. Barrett's narration was outstanding: l wish l could listen to it for the first time again.
📚 Trevanian executed the action, espionage, humour, mystery, sex and suspense correctly. Every single character was drawn with the right amount of depth to invest in. The excellent plotting was without digression or filler and I applaud the denouement. The Eiger Sanction is obviously a send up but punching its vulgarity is a very erudite and eloquently written story!! I loved everything about it.

Much better than the film
very enjoyable. The original books are nearly always more enjoyable than films made from them.
