Summary
Lex wants only one thing: to survive. Unfortunately, everyone he meets tries to kill him.
Mistaken for a failed hero with a long trail of enemies, Lex is tangled in a war he never signed up for. But when Lex sets out to uncover why, he finds the truth is bigger - and weirder - than he ever imagined.
An epic fantasy/portal fantasy/ soft sci-fi mashup, this book is teeming with quirky characters, fantastical creatures, twists, and high-stakes adventure.
Caution: Side effects include racing pulse, intense feels, and possible lack of sleep from late night binge-listening. May contain romantic subplots, heroic destinies, and bromance!

Excellent Narrator
I am Crystal Crawford, author of The Edge of Nothing... It may be a little weird to review my own audiobook, but I just wanted to give Brad Gilliam a shout-out for the amazing job he did narrating this book. My readers keep commenting on how much they LOVE his character voices, and he really brought my book to life. As an author, that makes me so happy! Thank you, Brad, for being so professional and doing such a great job on this audiobook.

More confusing than mysterious.
The story gets better as it progresses, but the audio quality is not good. In addition to general artifacting noise throughout, anytime the narrator shouts - which happens repeatedly - the sound is clearly damaged by either bad compression, bad mic, or both, . There are pauses throughout which drag out the runtime unecessarily, and a few instances of repeated sentences. Just not a quality audio production. Which is a shame, because the narrator is clearly not a dreadful performer even if some side-characters sound alike at times. The story itself is about a confused, no-memory guy who wanders around meeting people who seem determined to keep hiding his past from him, though they all know it and no one will tell him. He has weird flashbacks to something like our world, though he's running around in a fantasy village fighting shapeshifting dragon-demons. Unfortunately, everything is presented in such a way to cause maximum confusion and it takes until about halfway through before it starts to settle into something less frustrating. It's not a bad story, but I'd recommend going with kindle and skipping the audio version.

Enjoyed this epic fantasy
"Lex is a seventeen-year-old with no memories before this morning, and no clue why a group of villagers want him dead. Realizing they have mistaken him for a destructive magicborn who slaughtered innocents in their village, Lex flees for his life—only to discover he’s more tangled in the conflicts of the past than he ever imagined. And the mysterious girl he stumbles upon during his escape creates a whole new set of problems... An epic fantasy / portal fantasy / soft sci-fi mashup, this book is teeming with quirky characters, fantastical creatures, surprises and suspense" I agree with this synopsis and/or blurb. I loved the first two books of this trilogy. I also agree with previous reviews that like Lex we are thrown into the story and action and are a bit confused, like the main character, Lex. Disclaimer: I received a free promo code via story orgin. I am voluntarily reviewing.

2.5 Generous Stars!
I wish I could have listened to the entire story. It had a somewhat confusing start but was still intriguing. Frustratingly, I had to stop at the middle of Chapter 7 when the narrator LITERALLY started screaming & yelling!!! Instead of narrating, "she screamed" or "he shouted", the narrator actually did just that. I physically cannot listen to this book anymore. I'm even know gritting my teeth & in the throes of a massive headache. If you do give it a listen, PLEASE, do not listen via headphones or buds when he starts screaming! My star ratings include these 5 elements: .5★ story line (promising) .5★ engaging characters (interesting) 1★ use of world building (good from start) .5★ the ending (because I can't say) 0★ narration or editing (see above)

A must book to listen to
This was a great book written very well, and had a great narrator that did a great job. The characters get developed nicely. There is some surprises in store for you as you check this book out. The first couple chapters made me confused at times but still got me interested in hearing more. There is so many twists and turns that you never know what will happen next. Narrator did a great job, each character had their own voice and it never seemed to waver from it. I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving am honest review.

A Great Book
The book is worth staying with, Lex has visions. They can take place where he is or he is suddenly in another unknown place. He has to learn of his visions as he is chased by creatures or people he doesn't know. In the beginning he awakens and he doesn't remember who he is or what he is doing. I got confused at times but the author kept me straight. This plot never failed to keep my interest. The Narrator does a great job. I love that this story is clean without any frank sex. The world of Arameth is so wonderful. You will be glad there is a book number two.

awsome!
Excellent & original. I loved this audiobook. It exactly what I look for in audiobooks. The story was great. I can see how some people in other reviews saying that its a little confusing. I only found it confusing if I was zoning out and not paying attention. Then I'd go back a few seconds and duhhh... everything is easy pzy! But I really enjoyed all the characters! And the narrator was AMAZING. Sometimes the yelling got a little too much for my white girl nordic ancestry. But I did marry an Italian so I am gradually getting used to it. But other than that, he gets an A+ for putting so much emotion into what he was reading. Oh and I love how he played Nigel. This was amazing. I want more. Please Email me AmandaUrbinato1030@outlook..com I would love to continue to review for your audiobooks. They are awesome.

Just not for me
This story just didn't do it for me. I found it confusing and didn't connect with any of the characters. It took a lot to finish listening to it. The narrator did a decent job but had some quirks I found annoying such as making a swallowing sound when the text said "He swallowed" It was off-putting. I received a free copy for review.
