What's a lady to do when the man standing in her way might also be the man of her dreams?

Henry Deeping and Kate Meacham seem to clash every time they meet. Kate is frustrated by the change in her status following the death of her grandfather, a legendary figure in diplomatic circles. As a lone single woman, she is now effectively nobody, even though she knows everyone and has made important contributions to diplomacy in the past. Henry, just joining the Foreign Office, is wondering how to make his mark.

They agree to an exchange—Henry will serve as Kate's escort to important events to which she is no longer invited, and Kate will introduce him to the important people she knows so well. But when they spot a foreign agent they thought had been apprehended, they decide to investigate on their own, enlisting a motley group of friends and relying on each other to uncover the truth...

Great narration, great plot, great characters (happiness at last for Merlin) and we get to see old friends from several the previous appearances. Enjoy!

Rollicking tale- bit different from most!

Wonderful story telling, interesting characters, you feel invested and involved with the plot and as I always say
Rosalyn Landour could read the phone book and it would be awesome 🥰

I’ve listen to the whole series almost and they a delight, both storyline and narrator

It was OK but in no way as good as the other books in this series. I have enjoyed Henry in the other books but I could not warm to Kate. Plus I hope that is an end to Merlin who has annoyed my sensibilities for 3 books straight.
The French escapade seemed to come to nothing. I wanted the foreign office take on the assassination attempt. I can tell when a book is boring me, I don't look forward to listening when I am in the bath ( my guilty pleasure) all this week I have listened to music instead & felt finishing this story a bit of a chore.

Not as good as the other books in the series
