About this listen

Lady Johanna Darby has loved Benedict Carver since they were young, but he’s never seen her as more than his best friend’s little sister. When Benedict marries another and emigrates to America, she knows she will never love another. But with her sisters all wed, Johanna resigns herself to finding a match to finally leave her family home and give her brother his much-deserved freedom to find his own wife.

Until Benedict unexpectedly returns, newly titled and widowed.

Benedict Carver never doubted his place as the second son of a duke, mostly because his father would never let him forget it. Denied the station he desired at his family’s beloved Raeford Court, Benedict is sent to America with the bride his father chose for him. But when his brother dies in a tragic accident, Benedict finds himself with the title and an estate on the brink of collapse thanks to his brother’s gambling debts and neglect. Having sworn never to remarry, Benedict must now select a bride with a hefty fortune if he is to save his beloved Raeford Court.

Even if that bride is his best friend’s little sister.

Not your usual feisty girl meets a reluctant lord and they eventually see the light in each other. This whole series has some interesting plots that make a change.

As with my review of the previous books, I would have given 5 stars for the narration, but there were some really odd pronunciations of not uncommon old fashioned words that frustrated me. I don't know where the producers or checkers are in the process of producing audiobooks, but how several people let these mispronunciations pass, is just beyond me

Still a good series

Enjoyed each sisters story theme.lt would have been nice to have had an epilogue ie: lf they had children & how the Dukes reacted after their own troubled childhoods

The intermingling of the Darby sisters lives, despite being individuals. All interesting in their own way

She says she "will not be his whore". In fact it is he who will become her "Gigolo", as she will be paying him for services.
Then there is the accent, why does the Duke, have an Yorkshire accent? While everyone who grew up with him don't. He could have acquired an American accent, but Yorkshire!!!! The Heroine who has been brought up in a loving family. Is suffering from youngest child syndrome. She wants love, but will settle for belongings and the occasional sex. Then suddenly all is resolved.

A story of self-pity.
