Summary

A powerful wizard and a lowly kobold experience a magical meeting of the minds in the first book of this comedic fantasy-adventure series.

Absalom Scryne, the greatest wizard of his generation, has been murdered. There's no other explanation for why his consciousness now resides in his well-worn but perfectly pointed hat.

Well, he isn't going to take that lying down . . . or hanging from a branch, as the case may be. Instead, he'll hop on the head of the first foul-smelling kobold that comes along and convince it that it's in everyone's best interests for them to undertake the epic journey through the Badlands—past horny necromancers, rustic werewolves, and rampaging ogres—back to the shining city of magic at the heart of civilization, where he will promptly kick the backside of whoever it was that finally managed to stab him in the back.

Assuming, that is, he can teach a kobold how to use magic, survive all the roaming adventurers who consider a kobold to be a very minor payday, and prevent anyone else from claiming the wealth of arcane knowledge that is now bound within the rather handsome piece of haberdashery that he has become.

Humerous Haberdashery

For me this was a slow burner. At first I wasn't sure as I was struggling with the narrator, but stuck with it and now I don't think anyone else could have done the narration so well.
The story was brilliant light hearted and funny adventure.
I was listening ,a couple of times, on a late night run and found myself laughing in the dark on the side of the streets.
The characters are distinct and entertainingly written.
(of course you'd have necrophiliac necromancers)

Magic welded by a proxy ! Very cool.

I don't read books for "gender" therapy. I finished this book because John Lee is AMAZING! If I want books about "they/them...I'll read those. but as it happens I do not. I'll be moving on. thanks.

What fun

This was something different and very enjoyable with some very funny moments.

There are some touching moments too and a few twists I did not expect.

John Lee out did himself to go from genius scholar to an idiot and back again could not have been easy but he made this audiobook and deserves thanks.

There is no game litrpg elements this is a fantasy book and one well worth listening to. I am not sure if the story has the stength to become numerous books but I hope there will be another one.
