Summary

Charlie Dunbar had big plans for the summer break, but becoming a fugitive was nowhere on the list. Even more unexpected, his partner in crime is his own ailing grandfather. Now they're on the run, trying to make it across the country to see a special kind of doctor, while the world becomes mesmerized by their journey. They are the subject of heated debates on cable news channels. Thousands of people voice their support on Facebook fan pages. And Charlie's own parents appear on live TV to plead for him to come home safely.

But Charlie isn't ready yet. He's determined to get his grandfather to Seattle. The only question is, will the police stop him first?

wow

I enjoyed listening to Maxwell Glick This book will have you full of emotions . Brilliant characters and such a plot. Compassion and sensitivity , a boy , his father going on a road trip after the grandfather has been given some heart breaking news. We still have humour and a great plot.

Beautiful story, beautifully told.

If I'd read the blurb on this I'd never have downloaded it. It seems to be the kind of thing I'd hate. I got a free code though so started listening and got engaged right away. It's a fun and touching story, not too slushy but moving. The narrator did a really great job.

Beautiful but keep the tissues handy

OMG what a beautiful and heartbreaking story about a young boy and his father on the road trip of their life after his Grandfather is given a horrible diagnosis. After loosing my Grandad some years ago this is the kind of trip I wish we could have made together and the story of this man and his beloved grandson made me laugh and cry and I did not want it to end.

Fabulous multi generational story

Short enjoyable book about a teenager and his grandfather on a route trip. Many philosophical and ethical concepts were discussed but it may be a spoiler to reveal more.

I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Driving Lesson--Lifetime Learning Leaves Marks

Ben Reeder is an amazing author. I really enjoyed his series, and had only read those. Error on my part, I have missed being touched by The Driving Lesson. Charley and Opa take a wild ride from Texas to the Great Northwest. One is 14, freshman; the other, his 62 year old grandpa. It has sweet humor, moral dilemmas, legal questions, hard choices, and a truly memorable story. For a change of pace, this surprising quick read will be one of your newest favorite!

A nice tale of growing up

I thought this was going to be a schmaltzy story of a boy and his grandfather. But it was heartwarming and sentimental. I enjoyed the characters and the story.

Excellence!!

This book is the best book I have listened to in years! A sensitive and compassionate story of, rights and wrongs, life and death. About finding enjoyment, even through the toughest of times. I shed tears at times.. as this book touched very close to home for Me. WOW! Narration was very good, and the Characters become Family! :-)

An interesting tale

This book dramatizes and personalizes the issues around assisted suicide in an engaging way. It doesn’t go into deep politics, but rather looks at it through the eyes and experience of a teenager on the brink of adulthood. I found it moving and thought provoking. But also, laugh out loud funny. The narrator does a great job with the YA main character and is engaging throughout. I received this audiobook for free in exchange for a fair review.

emotional

I loved the relationship Charlie and his grandpa shared. I think their time together was important and meaningful. I think his parents were out of line to interfere with the road trip. It upset me that they kept trying to insinuate themselves in a private time. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a good job.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story.

I enjoyed the story. The topic is tough but the book didn't preach, it just told the story of the people involved.
