60 hours a week

240 patients

10 minutes to make a diagnosis

Welcome to the surgery

Charting his 15 years working as a GP, from rookie to becoming a partner in one of the UK’s busiest surgeries, Dr Amir Khan’s stories are as much about community and care as they are about blood tests and bodily fluids.

Along the way, he introduces us to the patients that have taught him about love, loss and family - from the regulars to the rarities - giving him the most unbelievable highs and crushing lows and often in just 10 minutes.

There is the unsuspecting pregnant woman about to give birth at the surgery, the man offering to drop his trousers and take a urine sample there and then, the family who needs support through bereavement, the vulnerable child who will need continuing care for a long-term health condition and, of course, the onset of the COVID-19 that tested the surgery at every twist and turn. But, it’s all in a day’s work for Amir.

The Doctor Will See You Now is a powerful story of hope, love and compassion, but it’s also a rare insider account of what really goes on behind those surgery doors.

Just brilliant!

Amir, what a wonderful insight into your life. Mama Khan should be very proud. This made me laugh, cry and gasp out loud. Recommend highly! If your fond of Amir on tv then this book is a must for you. Thanks Amir

Brilliant and entertaining insight

Couldn't stop listening. A great glimpse behind the consulting room door. Humour and deep emotion in equal measure. What a uplifting listen.

Did not want it to end

My husband bought me this book on his audible account and I have to say I did not want it to end. It truly felt like the author was reading it to me. His kindness has inspired me and I imagine it has others too! I cried, smiled and laughed. People like Amir are who young people should aspire to be! We can only hope he writes another book! fascinating insight

I really enjoyed listening to Dr Khan's lovely calm voice telling his stories from the coal face of general practice. Sad stories and heartwarming stories alike. Definitely worth listening to. I'd love to have Dr Khan as my GP

Beautiful and Balanced

As a junior doctor considering GP as a career it was fantastic to hear Dr Khan's personality and thoughts shine through his stories. There are some nuggets of comedy gold in this book too! I would 100% recommend this to family and friends.

Absolutely brilliant

I really enjoyed this audible book, Dr Khan read it so well. The only other person I've really enjoyed listening to is Stephen Fry so well done Amir. It really comes across that you love your job, your colleagues, your family (especially Mama Khan) and patients alike. It was serious when needed to be but your obvious sense of humour came across in such a good way it made me want to be your friend, colleague, patient! Really very well done, when you do decide to retire you should start reading books to everyone ;)

Such a good listen!

Such a good listen, hearing Amir read this is his own words, hearing his emotion, his empathy, his frustration made it all the more real. Being a Senior Nurse in a Nursing Home it was hard to hear about the elderly couple at the end. Looking forward to book number 2! Thank you Amir!

In-depth and insightful

Also being in the healthcare space, I really enjoyed this book. Great story telling and easy to listen to. Definitely gave me a new lens to view GP’s through. Keep up the great work and I hope you consider writing another book!
