When it comes to insult comics, Bianca Del Rio is in a class by herself. Fierce, funny, and fabulous - a would-be love child sired by John Waters and birthed by Joan Rivers - Bianca sandblasted her name in the annals of pop culture on RuPaul's Drag Race. Thanks to her snarky frankness, impeccable comedic timing, and politically incorrect humour, she became the show's breakout star, winning its sixth season.

Joan Rivers is a groundbreaking, award-winning, internationally renowned entertainment goddess. She’s also opinionated - especially when it comes to people she hates. Like people who think giving birth is a unique achievement. Or well-adjusted - a.k.a. boring - ex-child stars who don’t even have a decent addiction. With all of her diverse experiences, it stands to reason that Joan has seen, done, said, and heard a lot of hateful things. Thank god, she took notes.

Story
In this controversial and eye-opening book, distinguished businesswomen and writer Margaret Heffernan examines the phenomenon of wilful blindness in all its forms: in history, in business, in government, and in the family. Heffernan takes as her starting point the 2006 case of the US Government vs Enron, in which those in charge failed to observe the corruption that was unfolding before their very eyes, but not knowing was no defence. In our own lives, too, we can be guilty of overlooking what is right in front of us....

LOVED THIS BOOK.....
Would you listen to The Diva Rules again? Why?
Oh god yes I would listen to this again, and again...Flicking through Netflix desperately trying to find something to watch and landing on RuPauls drag race, becoming a fan and then an addict. I saw Michelle Visage and thought to myself that woman scares the bejesus out of me. After listening to her book, if I met her in real life, I would just want to give her a "Hey guuurrrl" and hug her.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Her openness and her vulnerability, especially when discussing her anxiety moments.

Loved it. At 0.9 speed...
Michelle Visage tells her own story with laugh-out-loud anecdotes AND tender, vulnerable remembering. Each chapter is structured with a life-lesson. Clever.
My only note: Michelle, take a breath! What you have to say is worth hearing, so give the words room with a bit of space.
My solution: I slowed down the play speed just a touch.
Funny. Inspired. Inspiring. Come through! Did I say that right?

Love me some of Ms Visage!
Not only does she give 'good face', I love Michelle Visage for her her succinct advice - mixed with her own inimitable blend of one-liners and cool gal sassiness. This audiobook is obviously fun but there are some great wise words woven in among the stories of Michelle's colourful life. She's definitely become someone whose attitude I admire greatly - no nonsense, honest advice delivered from a place of knowing!
I love, love, love her on Drag Race as the perfect foil for gorgeous RuPaul - she's definitely part of the reason for watching.
She does talk quickly so you need to listen in order to keep up - there's lots packed into these few hours.

"Grow Up & Screw Up"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Diva Rules to be better than the print version?
yes, as the narrator gives you the uplifting message without leaving your comfort zone.Try the new 1.25x speed for a change of pace. You will be surprised.
What did you like best about this story?
If you love an uplifting message, then this is IT. If you always wanted out of your comfort zone, but always think "that is not me", then this message ought to do it. Remember, it is still about the power of you.
What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?
"People want to be near YOU, because they feel better about themselves"

A Whole Lot of Nothing
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I recently heard Michelle Visage on a radio interview and was like 'This woman is awesome!'. And she is. But this book wasn't. I think in radio format, drag race, and interviews Michelle's true beauty and talent shines best. This book was filled with hackneyed, feel-good phrases, blah blahs, etc. - rendering it a bit dull. Her narration was wonderful and VERY Michelle.

I've learned a lot about acceptance & being kind... not like "generally I'm a kind person"... but in consciously making the decision every day to be truthful but from a kind/loving place. Work hard for everything you have, the people that succeed, do so because they will do WHATEVER IT TAKES to have the life they want. Thank you ♡♡♡

Love and Hard Truths
Michelle Visage dishes love and hard truths in equal measure. She's a great storyteller, recounting her days on the NYC club scene, and climbing into showbiz on talent, bravado, and determination. She is telling you right now, with love in your heart and a willingness to work your ass off, you can do anything.
I must give a special appreciation for Michelle's narration here. She takes no prisoners, performing this like a one woman show. She's hilarious, inspiring and dare I say? Fabulous!
