Critic reviews

"A top-flight thriller - smart and outrageously entertaining" Christopher Fowler, (Financial Times)
"Intelligently plotted and psychologically believable" (The Times)
"Formidable and satisfying... in the author's menacing world, sins of emotional cowardice and betrayal can be just as awful as offenses against the criminal code" Tom Nolan, (The Wall Street Journal selected as one of the top ten mysteries of 2013.
"My best mystery of the year turns out to be yet another stunner from Scandinavia. I could be wrong (but I don't think I am) when I say that Gazan disposes of a murder victim here by an infernal means that no other mystery writer--not even the resourceful Dame Agatha--ever concocted." Maureen Corrigan, (NPR, Favorite 10 Books of 2013)

Where does The Dinosaur Feather rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Worth looking at other books by the author - but not necessarily if they are spoken by the same person

What did you like best about this story?

Interesting characters and good story line

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

No - it was very slow and stagey at times and then rushed through the complex details which made it difficult to take in

Any additional comments?

Slow to start

Spoilt by performance

Whilst the dinosaur/bird basis for the story was different, albeit a bit of a red herring, the amount of character padding had me confused. Nevertheless, the overall plot was quite enjoyable. What spoilt it for me was the overdramatic performance of the narrator. Every time Annabelle featured I thought a nervous breakdown was about to ensue, both from her and me.

What disappointed you about The Dinosaur Feather?

The plot sounded interesting but in the end it was so long and drawn out that I lost interest. I also struggled with the narrator but persevered. Finally the main female character was so irritating (either stroppy or blubbing) I found myself secretly hoping that someone would do her in to put me out of my misery.

What could Sissel-Jo Gazan and Charlotte Barslund (translator) have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Less unnecessary detail and side plots.

Would you be willing to try another one of Kristin Milward’s performances?

Probably not.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Dinosaur Feather?

Much of the private life of Professor Freeman and Anna Bella's early days.

Any additional comments?

Interesting plot let down by too much detail that slowed the pace of the novel way too much for me.

Too long and drawn out
