Summary

Shortlisted for the VN Thriller of the Year 2022

LONGLISTED FOR THE CWA GOLD DAGGER

It's Christmas and a serial killer is leaving displayed body parts all over Cumbria. A strange message is left at each scene: #BSC6

Called in to investigate, the National Crime Agency's Washington Poe and Tilly Bradshaw are faced with a case that makes no sense. Why were some victims anaesthetized, while others died in appalling agony? Why is their only suspect denying what they can irrefutably prove but admitting to things they weren't even aware of? And why did the victims all take the same two weeks off work three years earlier?

And when a disgraced FBI agent gets in touch things take an even darker turn. Because she doesn't think Poe is dealing with a serial killer at all; she thinks he's dealing with someone far, far worse - a man who calls himself the Curator.

And nothing will ever be the same again . . .

Another stunner

I always think that the sign of a good book is that you are sad when it ends or you want to start it all over again straight away. This book ticked both of those boxes. Its absorbing and entertaining, it rattles along at such a great pace that its hard to stop listening. This series is definitely not for the faint of heart, some of the descriptions should not be read/listened to whilst eating that's for sure!!

The narrator is fantastic, after 3 books he really gets the characters and their little quirks.

I can't wait for the next one, shame it's a year until that happens.

Enjoyable

The characters are fairly predictable but the story was captivating and relatively unpredictable until the end where it then seemed to unravel into the stupid. But I would recommend.

Possibly the best book I've listened to this year

With so many twists and turns and a truly shocking ending this has to be one of the best crime books I've listened to. Thankfully only 2 weeks until publication of book 4.

Another enjoyable tale

Like the characters in these books. Annoyingly I read Dead Ground before realising there were books before it

Absolutely brilliant

I was not sure what to expect from a third Washington Poe entry, often third books can be lacklustre but OH BOY, this one is quite the opposite. I was sucked in and full on glued to my earbuds the entire time.

I don't know where to begin with an attempt to describe this story, it's too bizarre to describe rationally, up, down sideways, whichever ways, this is a roller coaster way beyond any I've ridden before.

This is definitely an excellent third book in this series that you will want to hear/read, weird but wonderful, as we like it eh?

Buy it, listen now, you will love it (unless you have a delicate sensibilities as this is far from cozy) .

John Banks is absolutely the perfect narrator for this book, in fact I wish he could record new versions of all the books I've ever listened too.
