Summary

Lynn Ames' first novel, The Price of Fame, has been called "absorbing and filled with romance" (Lori L. Lake, Midwest Book Review). Now Ames is back with the second installment in the lives of Katherine Kyle and Jamison Parker.

Kate and Jay want nothing more than to focus on their love. But as Kate settles in to a new profession, she and Jay become caught up in the middle of a deadly scheme - pawns in a larger game in which the stakes are nothing less than control of the country.

In her new novel of corruption, greed, romance, and danger, Lynn Ames takes us on an unforgettable journey of harrowing conspiracy - and establishes herself as a mistress of suspense. The Cost of Commitment. It could be everything....

I love this book.

The Cost of Commitment by Lynn Ames is great! This ongoing series about Jay and Kate is wonderful. Politics, intrigue, and romance. Emily Beresford does a wonderful job with the narration. Thanks for making this great book available on Audible.

Pretty good for the plot, suspense, action scenes

Pros: plot of political intrigue and decent cast of characters.

Cons: breathy narrator. And the two main characters continually exclaiming their undying devotion seems like merely like a way to pad the page count. After the hundredth ‘do you know how much I love you?!’ it gets trite. And the sex scenes also don’t add value to listening experience. But that’s a matter of taste. Erotica isn’t necessary to fill pages in a well written story. I fast forwarded over them. Not a strong point in the 80’s era story.

YAWN

Yeah.....NO! I tolerated the writing to give it a chance, but it was soooo hard to take the narration!! I listened through because I actually paid for this!! SPOILER ALERT***kinda: Towards the end leaves with a bit of a cliff hanger to see just what may or may not happen in the follow-up to this book. I will NOT subject myself to listening to the horrible narrator who ALWAYS has a voice of damsel in distress or just plain whiny!! I don’t even care what happened to Jay and Kate at this point!! I don’t usually write negative reviews, but I couldn’t help it with this one!!

Terrible!

It had been a while since I listened to the first title in the series, and I forgot how truly awful the writing was! Everything is “perfect”, and “the best”, and “the most”, and so self-congratulatory. If I knew an actual person who was so arrogant and bragadocious as Kate, I don’t know how I would stand to be around her!
The narration is a perfect fit. It is equally awful.
I haven’t even made it an hour in and I’m quitting! Everything I felt about the first book (which I willed myself to get through, sure it must improve - it didn’t) has come flooding back.
I listen to audiobooks to pass the time while I do mundane tasks. Silence is better than this.
So glad it was included with my audible plus membership, so I didn’t waste any money on it. I’m deleting the whole series from my device and hoping I remember just how much I do not like this author and narrator.
There is so much good content here. Skip this one, and find something better.

Sportscaster

this book is alright. I was disappointed by the voice actor. she seemed to be doing the play by play of a hockey game.

Report that

Another adventure with J.& K. , but this one was a little too political for me. I planned to listen to all 3 of them, but I’m going to give my ears a rest for a month. Off to my next adventure.

Meh

Let me just say - the narrator is absolutely amazing. She managed to portray more than 12 different characters, all with their own unique accents and voices.

Now, for the story....

I LOVED the first book in the series. This one, not so much. I found it dry and boring, with just enough mystery to keep the story going and to keep me reading.

But unless I see raving reviews for the next book in the series, I'm not likely to get it.
