Given 4 stars simply for the first 3 chapters i found these to be slow and very nearly lost my attention. Glad I carried on.

I am a sucker for a reformed Rake trope and this book does it just right. The characters of Connor and Avery are perfectly balanced and the mystery,while predictable at places, had a satisfying ending. The one decision that reminded me that this is MM fiction is the sudden romp in the country in the middle of hunting a dangerous criminal but I will just accrue this to the smut quota for this type of novel lol. The narrator was not bad but something in the pacing and the tone of his voice made it sound off.
