Summary

Andy Prescott is the most laid-back young lawyer in Austin, Texas. Specialising in traffic law, he operates from a small room above a ramshackle tattoo parlour. He rides a trail bike and spends way too much time drinking beer in the sunshine. Ambition has never been Andy's strong point - he prefers to take it easy. That is, until one of Texas's wealthiest men walk into his office. On the spot, billionaire Russell Reeves retains Andy as his lawyer and, in exchange for some easy legal work, pays him more money than he has ever earned before. Andy's life is transformed. But nothing comes for free. Russell is a desperate man whose sole aim is to save his eight-year-old son, Zach, who is dying from leukaemia. He is prepared to do anything - even if it means putting Andy's life in danger…

Good Story, Great Narrator

The plot was a bit obvious (some of the twists w were entirely predictable) but this was more than made up for by good writing and genuine dialogue. The narrator is excellent, compelling and highly impressive during two -way and three-way conversation. Recommended.

A Jolly Good Yarn!

What made the experience of listening to The Common Lawyer the most enjoyable?

It's quick pace and likeable characters.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Andy himself, he's a good guy, if a bit flawed - basically human.

What about Christopher Ragland’s performance did you like?

He has a good adaptable voice for story telling, young and old, male and female characters, he makes them alll believable.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I had the time, yes!

Any additional comments?

This is an easy listen, with interesting characters. There are a couple of cycle chases which take place, very descriptive, they reminded me of car chases in a movie, if you like that sort of thing.

Enjoyable but not his best.

Not as good as the Accused but I'm enjoying his work. Looking forward to more listening. Hope you enjoy too.

The Common Lawyer

Any additional comments?

I enjoy Mark Gimenez's books and this was no exception - although it took a while to get going so that we knew about our character - we seemed to spend a long time establishing just how 'cool' he is, but once it got going, I enjoyed it - certainly easy listening. However, the narration was dreadful - Christopher Ragland absolutely gabbled his way through it at top speed as if he had somewhere more exciting to be. A shame.

Young, fresh approach to law in Austin, Texas

Would you consider the audio edition of The Common Lawyer to be better than the print version?

the narration of the book is great and well in sync with the characters in the book, it takes a light hearted stance which is how the book portrays this young lawyers life in Teaxas

What did you like best about this story?

it`s easy going.. after reading several heavy, indepth law based fiction books, which were very good, this was a nice light alternative before the next complicated one

Have you listened to any of Christopher Ragland’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Not sure if he`s narrated any before that I`ve listened to, but liked the style and characterization alot

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not really, not that type of book, but very enjoyable
