It's 1941 and Britain is at war. For the aristocratic Walsingham family this means their grand home being taken over by the armed forces. But for newcomers Ava, Maudie and Bella, this is a chance for something more. Each is ready to do their part for the war effort and soon become firm friends. But Lord Edward Walsingham seems like he is hiding something. And although he may be clever, he might have met his match in Maudie and the girls…©2016 Daisy Styles (P)2016 W F Howes Ltd Genre Fiction Historical Historical Fiction Kadın Kurgu Kurgu War & Military Çağdaş Romantizm Romantik Savaş Samimi Askeri

I love Daisy Styles books and usually enjoy every one I read. I cannot say that I did not enjoy this book as I found it a pleasant read BUT I felt the story was more a "WW2 Upstairs Downstairs" than a book about actual code girls. As mentioned in another review, I found the story to be more "Enid Blyton" than Daisy Styles with the emphasis on work downstairs in the kitchens rather than code breaking. I am disappointed as I was looking forward to reading a novel based around the code girls actual work but sadly this novel barely mentioned the code breaking of WW2.
The book was beautifully narrated by Anne Dover who as usual can make even the most boring novels sound exciting, therefore it was worth buying for that alone. As a novel it is very similar to Daisy Styles other WW2 books with very little changes. Overall a pleasant read but not one of her best efforts.

I hope we will never know in this world again what happened in WWII, but this story has shown the happiness and sadness that can be found. A beautiful book.
