Summary

It's nearly Christmas, Julia Devine's favourite time of the year. She's just programmed a wonderful lead into the holidays at Sunny Street Cinema, which leaves her plenty of time to worry about going home to Cumbria for Christmas. Her mum and stepdad are fine, but the thought of spending another holiday with her awful stepsister Becca is enough to make a Scrooge out of anyone.

When Becca calls to let her know about the dreamy pilot she's bringing to Christmas lunch, Julia finally snaps and does something very silly. She tells Becca she's dating heartthrob movie star Hugo Turner.

Of course, Julia isn't dating Hugo Turner - she isn't dating anyone - but Becca will never let her live it down if she discovers Julia's lie. Enter Sam Hunter, ordinary guy on the street with a startling resemblance to a movie star. Without any holiday plans of his own, he's the perfect stand-in for the real Hugo. Sam has his own reasons for agreeing to be Julia's sham movie-star boyfriend. It's just for one weekend, right? But will this Christmas charade flourish into real Christmas magic?

Enchanting story

Although very predictable , the story was enchanting and compelling. Well written and nicely performed . Julia was unbelievably naive not to have put 2 and 2 together but it made a good story .

Good British RomCom

I enjoyed this novella more than I expected. The performance and the storyline were both good. I could see it as a movie written by Richard Curtis

Sweet Christmas romance

Lovely little Christmas romance that I’ve enjoyed listening to before bed. I especially liked all the film references scattered about. Great performance makes up for a fairly predictable but still charming story.

The story flowed and was beautifully read by Ms Stevenson

A nice relaxing read and a story, though slightly far fetched, was warm and easy to follow.

A lovely Christmas story

I liked the story. It was predictable but still a ‘feel-good’ story. Confessions were forced or offered, differences were solved, wrongs were righted and a good time was had by all. It was somewhat predictable but still very enjoyable.
The only (very slight) annoyance for me was the narrator’s accent. I felt that it wasn’t natural and was too false. She was able to clearly distinguish the characters, though and I definitely did enjoy listening to the story.

Lovely Christmas story!

Christmas season in London, UK :) Only 4hrs but it has everything a good story needs. Really gave me these festive vibes! :) I especially liked how Sylvia's character and mother-daughter relationship evolved during these few Christmas days.

Very gentle

I loved the pace a little predictable maybe but, when you read a lot that happens now looking for more of her books.

Reminiscent of Hallmark movie’s. Perfect. Loved it all. You really get caught up in the step sister’s controlling. Highly recommend

Short, sweet, and so adorable

Just what I needed after finishing a serious non-fiction, A Christmas Star was like a delicious little palate cleanser.
