Summary

THE CAST OF SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLING THE APPEAL RETURN FOR A FESTIVE MURDER MYSTERY

One dead Santa. A town full of suspects. Will you discover the truth?

Christmas in Lower Lockwood, and the Fairway Players are busy rehearsing their festive pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, to raise money for the church roof appeal. But despite the season, goodwill is distinctly lacking amongst the amateur dramatics enthusiasts. Sarah-Jane is fending off threats to her new position as Chair, the fibreglass beanstalk might be full of asbestos, and a someone is intent on ruining the panto even before the curtain goes up.

Of course there's also the matter of the dead body. Who could possibly have had the victim on their naughty list? Join lawyers Femi and Charlotte as they read the round robins, examine the emails and pore over the police transcripts. Will the show go on?

Not long enough

I love Janice Hallett novels and was really excited to see this release … great characters, many of whom I have enjoyed before and the gentle humour. BUT … I am so disappointed that it was so short! I kind of expect more for my credit and this felt like a short story or at best a novella. I wished I’d spent my monthly credit on something longer as I listen to audio books on my car journey. One book normally lasts me a month and this one just a trip to London and back.

Short but Worthwhile

I enjoyed this story, albeit brief it certainly packed a punch. Really good narration too.

Would be better to read

The format doesn’t work brilliantly on audio. Would be better read
Not the finest story, but a bit of fun

Humorous and engaging story

I enjoyed the interaction of thoughts and also misconceptions people have about one another. Interesting way of writing the story through email and WhatsApp communications. Keeps you guessing. Is it a whodunnit or not but unfolds nicely. Very enjoyable

Funny and clever!

The way this story grew through with WhatsApp and email, as well as narrative, is brilliant. The characters are hilarious, the bickering - wonderful. I especially loved Harley the teenager and… ‘gender neutral’… The author pulls this neatly into an unexpected ending big red Christmassy bow.

Another brilliant plot

Beautifully written Yuletide mystery, full of the political wrangling and petty malice I’ve come to expect from the small town amateur drama enthusiasts.

Great fun

A great Christmas novella. Very clever and funny. I love Hallett's format and her ability to create very distinctive voices through messages and emails.

A most wonderful Christmas present ❤️

What a joy …. a Christmas present I am so happy to have opened early. A pantomime of a pantomime, how utterly perfect 👌🏻
