Welcome to the mind of a serial killer.
A serial killer with a difference; he has a mental disorder that means he has trouble focussing his mind and suffers occasional blackouts.
Not that Joshua Jones sees himself as a serial killer. He is merely collecting his precious Chosen Ones.
He finds solace in Father Connelly, to whom he confesses his crimes, safe in the knowledge that this devoutly religious man will not break the sanctity of the confessional.
On the hunt for his next victim, he comes across a talented singer, Hannah, who's soothing voice helps his mind focus.
Hannah is a Psychology student and asks if she can study his mind. He reluctantly agrees, and slowly, but surely, a conscience emerges, making him want to change his life.
Trouble is... His mind tells him she is the perfect Chosen One.

I wasn't initially sure about the narrator's choice of voice for the protagonist but he quickly grew on me as the character became clearer, and the droll storytelling actually made me laugh out loud in places, which is rare for me.
But why did the author throw away all their work building intriguing plot points around the protagonist only to casually dismiss or discard them? It left rich narrative arcs and burgeoning character development painfully and implausibly unresolved. More please!
darkly funny and original protagonist
