Story
For Titus and his friends, it started out like any ordinary trip to the moon - a chance to party during spring break and play with some stupid low-grav at the Ricochet Lounge. But that was before the crazy hacker caused all their feeds to malfunction, sending them to the hospital to lie around with nothing inside their heads for days. And it was before Titus met Violet, a beautiful, brainy teenage girl who has decided to fight the feed and its omnipresent ability to categorize human thoughts and desires.

Story
Hard Times is Dickens' scathing portrait of Victorian industrial society and its misapplied utilitarian philosophy. And Thomas Gradgrind is one of his most richly dimensional, memorable characters. Filled with the details and wonders of small-town life, Hard Times is also a daring novel of ideas---and ultimately a celebration of love, hope, and the limitless possibilities of the imagination.

It is 1745, and the Jacobite rebellion is on the rise. Ewen Cameron, a principled young Scottish Highlander, is destined and honoured to serve Bonnie Prince Charlie, the young Pretender, and to help the 'rightful King' ascend to the British throne. Major Keith Windham is a career soldier with the English Army - seemingly the antithesis of Ewen. He is jaded, worldly and loyal to the Crown but, ultimately, an outsider.

Rome, 63 BC. In a city on the brink of acquiring a vast empire, seven men are struggling for power. Cicero is consul, Caesar his ruthless young rival, Pompey the republic's greatest general, Crassus its richest man, Cato a political fanatic, Catilina a psychopath, Clodius an ambitious playboy. Editor reviews
Set in seventeenth-century England during King Charles's deposition, this story features four orphaned children who are adopted by a forester. He has rescued them from the "Roundhead" troops who killed their Royalist father (loyal to King Charles). As the forester's adopted "grandchildren," the four Beverly children must adapt to rustic life, learning to cook, hunt, and sew. Narrator Glen McCready's details these activities with a quiet pleasure that is contagious. McCready's dignified British voice is well suited to this old-fashioned adventure story filled with the classic themes of resourcefulness, self-reliance, and courage. As McCready's narration skillfully illuminates the children's growing maturity and wisdom, the story becomes all the more satisfying.
Summary
The Children of the New Forest is Captain Marryat's classic children's adventure story.
The four Beverley children find themselves orphaned when their father is killed by Cromwell's army at the outset of the English Civil War. The book follows their experiences as they are forced to abandon their aristocratic title and go into hiding in the New Forest.
Read superbly by Glen McCready, this new abridgement is aimed at 7-12 year olds.

absolutely wonderful! A favorite with my sons!
It is a story of children having to fend for themselves against the odds - a theme all kids relate and aspire to. Wonderfully historic and yet exciting and thrilling. My 11-year old son adores the story, and it is my favorite comfort story to go to when feeling out of sorts.
