A luxurious resort. A dream getaway. A murder that changes everything.

Nina and Michael Carr are newlyweds on a romantic minimoon at The Chateau, an exclusive resort nestled in the Catskill Mountains. The setting is perfect—stunning views, lavish accommodations, and a welcome escape from their hectic everyday lives. But when the body of a young woman is discovered near the lake, their idyllic retreat turns into a nightmare.

Now, Nina finds herself entangled in a homicide investigation, questioned by detectives who believe she may hold the key to uncovering what really happened. The deeper she digs into the mystery, the more unsettling her memories become—particularly those involving the other guests, and the secrets they seem desperate to hide.

As the truth slowly comes to light, Nina must untangle a web of lies before it’s too late. Because at The Chateau, nothing is as it seems—and someone will do whatever it takes to keep the past buried.

I listen to crime drama/fiction on Audible all day every day while I work - so am very familiar with the genre. This title was included with my subscription so I'm not going to slate it but... oh dear. Initially, I thought I had sussed out the plot "twist" from the very start which made it a little irritating but I decided to persevere as I was engrossed in my work anyway. Now, an hour from the end, I have just stopped it as it's just getting ridiculous. The storyline is told through the eyes of each main character and in two different timelines ("before" and "after"). Then some of that is completely contradicted in the last half of the book! Not so much a "plot twist" as a "plot over-written". Sorry, but in my humble opinion, this one just doesn't work at all - but each to their own.
The narrator did a good job of voicing the different characters and was pleasant enough to listen to.

I did like aspects of this story but it went on for way too long. The twist was good but lots of extra unnecessary detail.

Good story...too long

I enjoyed this book. It was a surprise and exciting. I will listen to more by sane author.

there were a couple of pieces of internal dialogue that when you get to the end don't make sense and are deliberately placed so you don't guess who committed which crime which is disappointing but otherwise very well written and acted.

I don't normally think much of free books but this wasn't bad
