Summary

Back in Pickax, Jim Qwilleran expects to resume a quiet life, but the people and animals of Pickax have other ideas. A noisy cardinal wakes him every morning. Nosy neighbors drop by uninvited, and the Siamese misbehave, even sneezing on guests. As if they weren't bad enough, Qwill's long-time companion acts as though she is in love, with another man.

But worst of all, Qwill finds a body in his apple orchard. When Qwill's friend becomes the chief suspect, he embarks on a crusade to clear Dennis Hough's name and win back Polly Duncan's heart. Even Koko sniffs out a few clues. But will their efforts be too little too late? Not even Koko knows for sure in the quirky, engaging romp through Moose County.

Humorous and engaging

Love this series of books. Wish they were all available as part of membership. Too many to buy each one.

slightly offbeat

interesting and original. LJB keeps the suspense going in a well placed narrative. Brava LJB!

Another excellent Cat Who book!

Loved it, and George Guidall is a wonderful narrator. He IS Jim Qwilleran for me!

LJB’s best yet?

Arguably one of her best in the series. LJB introduced the murder early on in the story which gave the fitting of the puzzle pieces a more enveloping experiencing. Always the humour shines through, the huffs into the famous moustache, Koko’s persistent prods ‘I kept telling him’, and the romance between Quill and Polly almost reached a decisive moment! And George Guidell is a perfect choice as he puts just the right amount of playfulness into each of these books. You won’t be disappointed!

A satisfying story with clever cat characters

As always with the Cat Who books there are good descriptions, a mystery to solve and wonderful cat companions. They are easy to listen and engaging
