Another good story

I first came across The Cat Who series many years ago when I read The Cat who Ate Danish Modern and loved it. From time to time I have read the others and listened to the audio tapes from the library - yes that's how long ago it was!! I think George Guidall really pulls off Quill in those tapes and this one. But and there is a big but.. 3/4 of the story is about the town, the people and Quilleran himself. Koko and Yum Yum are nothing more than bit players and the murder is in the last 2 chapters or is it the last three - cant remember but I'm sure someone from 'down below' got caught for it. There is another murder nearer the start - two cousins at a party go off on rabbit shoot and one ends up dead. But that's it - no follow up? Maybe I fell asleep at that point - I tend to listen in bed and Mr Guidall has such a lovely voice. To be fair this is one of the later books and I really do think that LJB could not think of any further plots and wrote because that's just what she did. All in all its a pleasant enough way to fall asleep but don't expect any suprises.

I've listened to many of these entertaining little stories about the detective Siamese cat belonging to Jim Qwilleran, the modest millionaire journalist, mainly because I love the whimsy and the voice of the narrator, George Guidall.

If you don't know them, start at the beginning of the series and find out how "Qwill", the crime reporter from Chicago, inherited a fortune from a forgotten relative and moved to Pickax, "north of everywhere". The stories aren't profound but provide a delightful interlude in between more serious stuff. George Guidall, the narrator, is the perfect choice for Qwill and he does a great job with the other voices too.

The smart cat, Koko, and his delicate friend, Yum Yum, and his human "servant " Mr Q ( the owner of the cats and one of the richest people in the area ) solve yet another group of crimes. Another good story, so don't try to reinvent the wheel?
