Summary
Clive Merrison stars as Holmes with Michael Williams as Watson in these 12 adventures from the unique, fully dramatised BBC canon of Conan Doyle's short stories and novels.
The 12 dramatisations are 'The Illustrious Client', 'The Blanched Soldier', 'The Mazarin Stone', 'The Three Gables', 'The Sussex Vampire', 'The Three Garridebs', 'The Problem of Thor Bridge', 'The Creeping Man', 'The Lion's Mane', 'The Veiled Lodger', 'Shoscombe Old Place' and 'The Retired Colourman'.
These short stories are the very last ones written by Arthur Conan Doyle about his much-loved fictional detective. Holmes and Watson are faced with cases that range from the suspicious to the seemingly supernatural, and they encounter characters as diverse as an evil Austrian adventurer, a formidable female criminal, a distinguished professor who is acting oddly and a mysterious tenant who refuses to show her face.
Gripping, suspenseful and hugely entertaining, these acclaimed dramatisations were adapted by Bert Coules from the original short stories. Among the guest cast are Hannah Gordon, Robert Glenister, Michael Troughton, Alexandra Bastedo, Harriet Walter, Douglas Henshall and George Cole.

impossible to navigate
I have nearly all the Sherlock Holmes audio collections, but this is the worst. Literally a collection of 160+ chapters, with no titles at all. it is impossible to choose a story to listen to, with each chapter being around 3 mins. cannot believe they allow this to be charged full price. completely useless, and I have not been able to listen to more than one story as cannot find my place again.

Classic Conan Doyle stories beautifully performed by an outstanding cast. But, once again, the decision into chapters is inept and annoying. Chapters lasting 2 minutes and 38seconds, 4 minutes and 16 seconds etc. B****y infuriating!

Audible app review of Sherlock Holmes
First off, I love these Sherlock Holmes radio plays and would highly recommend them but for the atrocious Audible app they're on.
I'm new to Audible and, frankly was expecting a much better app than what is offered considering the Amazon brand and the money behind it. I am seriously disappointed. I would have thought there would be more features. Audible offers not just books but radio plays and to not have the plays named within the 'book' is ridiculous.
I am so disappointed with this Audible app 'book'. There are to many 'chapters' and no way to know where one play starts or stops. None of the chapters are named, there is no way to create a playlist of a single play within the 'book'. You have to check the shop info for the story titles.
I doubt very much I'll continue after the offer period and my 3 credits. So very disappointed.

YOU HAD ONE JOB, TERRY!
I won't lie. It's amazing content.
But - tiny bone of contention: You BBC bozos had three jobs - MAX!
1. DIGITIZE ORIGINAL RECORDING
2. DIVIDE INTO SMALLER SEGMENTS
3. oh and one more... NAME THESE SEGMENTS!!!!!
Paying nearly 25$ for something I cannot browse is unreasonable and should be reflected in the overall grade. LOUDLY.
SOLUTION: Until then, fellow readers, it is best to avoid browsing. You can add bookmarks and name them as you go through the book and return to your favourites this way.
But do let the production pranksters know of the inconvenience by means of a LOW (2 stars?) rating. I know it seems extreme but think about the money you spent and they didn't. This content had already been produced ages ago.
25$? Decent dinner out. 6 overpriced cappuccinos at least. Lots to do with 25$.....

Great dramatizations.
Only the earlier versions starring Carlton Hobbs and Norman Shelley, could rival these versions .
However, Audible, should have done a better job, separating each story. Instead of a continuous series of small chapters, which is very confusing, because you do not know, when a new story starts or ends, Audible, should have separated the stories completely and added the title of each new story.
Better chapter consolidation would have made it easier to select which story to listen too.
Better chapter consolidation would have reduce the guessing game on which chapter a new story starts.

Know your Holmes Before You Listen
Wonderful performances from everyone in the cast, but the stories are easier to follow if you know them going in. While they adapted them very well for radio, details were changed and the plot can sometimes get misconstrued amidst all the action. If you know the Holmes stories well, this will be a great addition to your library. If not, I would read them first before listening.

Bad choice of leads
I'm generally ok at detecting different accents but the voices for Holmes and Watson were practically identical and it was a frustrating listen, trying to determine who was speaking at any given time. Also my least favorite collection of Holmes stories, not enhanced in any way by this performance.
Misophonia warning: a couple stories have the characters talking while eating for extended periods.
Completely unnecessary "atmosphere" noises.
I highly recommend the Stephen Fry version of the earlier stories!
