Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The irresistible new romantic comedy from the number one bestselling author. Discover the joy that awaits when you set yourself free...

Sasha is well and truly over it all: work (all-consuming), friendships (on the back burner), sex-life (non-existent). Sasha has hit a brick wall.

Armed with good intentions to drink kale smoothies, try yoga and find solitude, she heads to the Devon resort she loved as a child. But it's off-season, the hotel is falling apart and now she has to share the beach with someone else: a grumpy, stressed-out guy called Finn. How can she commune with nature when he's sitting on a rock, watching her? Especially when they don't agree on burnout cures. (Sasha: manifesting, wild swimming, secret chocolate bars; Finn: drinking whisky.)

But when curious messages start appearing on the beach, Sasha and Finn are forced to begin talking - about everything. What's the mystery? Why are they both burned out? What exactly is 'manifesting', anyway?

They might discover that they have more in common than they think...

Brightened my dark days

Whilst the story was a tad predictable at times, it really didn’t seem to matter. The subject of “burnout” was very well observed (and truly relatable), and the one-liners and the performance were pitch perfect. All in all it made for a big warm hug of a book!

Funny and touching

I did like it. I had a few laugh out loud moments. Sometimes it felt a little slow, and I didn't quite feel the chemistry between the lovers but it was nice, with many funny visuals. I won't read it again but I will recommend.

Not the worst not the best

It was okay and nice and gentle but unlike other SK books I can't say it was a cover to cover read/listen.

Soppy Romance ❤️

A bit too obvious a story line but loved the characterisation. Worth a read/listen

Hilarious, heartfelt, and characterful

I don’t think I realise until well after the fact that Sophie Kinsella is brilliant at creating unique characters. Take this novel for example, I found myself remembering a hotel and it brought to mind the characters from this book, and how incredibly funny they were with their own individual quirks and personalities. I also love the way Sophie Kinsella books have such wonderful structure with a beginning, conflict in the middle, and hugely satisfying endings for all characters involved. This novel was no different. The enemies to lovers trope turned out so sweet, the romance sucked me in through character back story. And of course the main character’s story arc is truly transcendent, going from utter burnout in a hilarious way at the beginning of the book, to falling in love and also realising her own value in the process.

The burnout

Loved this book and the story line very relatable - made me laugh out loud in some places. Made me think of family holidays to Devon and the good memories we made
