Story
In this timeless, mythical tale of unforgiving justice and elusive grace, rural Mississippi townsfolk shoulder the pain of generations as something dangerous lurks in the enigmatic kudzu of the woods. The town of Red Bluff, Mississippi, has seen better days, though those who've held on have little memory of when that was. Myer, the county's aged, sardonic lawman, still thinks it can prove itself. When confronted by a strange family of drifters, the sheriff believes that the people of Red Bluff can be accepting, rational, even good. The opposite is true.

Story
Constable Paul Hirschhausen runs a one-cop station in the dry farming country south of the Flinders Ranges. He's still new in town but his community work - welfare checks and a light touch - is starting to pay off. Now Christmas is here and, apart from a grass fire, two boys stealing a vehicle and Brenda Flann entering the front bar of the pub without exiting her car, Hirsch's life has been peaceful. Until he's called to an incident on Kitchener Street, a strange and vicious attack that sickens the community.

Story
When Detective P. T. Marsh and his partner Remy Morgan are asked to investigate the suspicious death of a local real-estate baron, it's easy for them to name a list of suspects: violent neighbours, a wronged ex-wife and an escort, all of whom have reasons to want the man dead. But as they dig into the case, it becomes clear the death was not an isolated case of revenge...and may be part of a dark web of crimes connected to the accident that killed P. T.'s wife and son a few years earlier.

Story
Anarchy hits Dunedin when a cargo ship runs aground on Aramoana Beach amid a crowd of onlookers. One of them discovers a skull in the sand while desperate scavengers fight each other for the best of the bounty. Waking up to the chaos and hurrying outside to give the police a hand, Detective Constable Sam Shephard cops a wallop before her attacker is himself beaten senseless - and she saves his life in the ambulance. Returning to work, she is sent to help recover a body submerged in the water, the autopsy revealing that this was no accidental drowning but a lethal assault.
Summary
"You would be hard-pressed to find a finer new series than Tom Bouman's Henry Farrell novels because of the complexity of the plots or the richness of the characters, but what it really comes down to is just damn good writing." (Craig Johnson)
A headless stranger is found in the woods of Wild Thyme, a small town in the Endless Mountains of Pennsylvania. All signs point to a man-killing bear, and Officer Henry Farrell would just as soon leave this hunt to the Game Commission. But doubts arise when he discovers the victim was a retired investigator.
What drew the investigator to sleepy Wild Thyme? Before Henry can find answers, his own nephew disappears into the hills. Then an old flame dies under suspicious circumstances, leaving Henry as the prime suspect.
Torn between protecting his family and clearing his name, Henry fights to protect the most he's ever had to lose.

Poor narrator
I couldn’t get into the story because the narrator has no inflection in his voice.
