About this listen

Magnetic and educated, Marianne Simpson has the manner of a lady and the looks of a lover, not a fighter. Neither of which explains her occupation as a boxer in her uncle's circus, Farnham's Fantastical Female Fayre. Nonetheless, when St. John Powell, the exquisitely handsome Duke of Staunton, begins turning up at her shows, she finds herself dangerously distracted by the powerful peer's mysterious presence. With her safety at stake, Marianne's days in the ring are numbered. But how long can she fight her attraction to the man the ton calls Lord Flawless?

St. John Powell doesn't just want Marianne Simpson, he needs her . . . to rescue his brother, who is being held for ransom by a treasonous English baron—the man all of Britain knows as the Rake of Rakes. No matter how little Marianne wants to see her duplicitous ex-lover, the man responsible for the humiliating nickname the Boxing Baroness, St. John must convince her. Even if it means climbing into the ring with the beautiful boxer and taking everything she's got . . .

Contains mature themes.

I really enjoyed it, it was evocative, the world building by the author was such that you could almost see it!

I liked both MCs, but Sin stole my heart! He was sexy, strong, kind, thoughtful & able to earn people's respect by being himself & not denigrating others!

Marianne was a badass, who neither swooned nor needed to be rescued... she was a smart, self-sufficient woman.

The only downside sadly, was the narrator... with so many French names, towns, words, speech, etc... they really should've gotten someone who CAN speak French... I'm not still not quite over her pronunciation of Dubois 🤣🤣

Also she kept pronouncing the silent Ts & Ss... it was a mess!

I like the sound of her voice though, but she also kept forgetting the voices & many times, in conversations, you can't really tell who is meant to be speaking....

well worth a listen

Likeable characters and an interesting story with a good narrrator. An easy enjoyable read. Looking forward to reading the other two books in the series.

Loved it.

I was bored with it. I persevered with it to the end. Performance was ok. Just didn’t grip me.

It was very bland

There are so many mispronunciations that it is painful!! The accents are appalling, especially the French one 🙈. It’s such a shame because it’s so off-putting & the story would probably be ok if I could get past the awful narration ie St John should be pronounced Sinjohn hence the character’s nickname Sin but no, it gets pronounced Saint John 🙄 - this is one of many many mistakes: assuage, Beauvais, curricle etc etc- why does this not get vetted by audible???

The Worst Narrator I have ever listened to!
