Summary

Fear. Desire. Redemption.

When I was taken...it changed me.

Once, I was the life of the party. Not anymore.

I told myself that I was okay. I almost believed it, until the day I was forced to face my past and my nightmare came to life.

Now the Four are the only ones I can turn to, and Cassius Drummond has made it his personal mission to help me out.

No matter how much I tell myself that he’s off-limits, the more time we spend together, the more I want him.

Bound by my past, I know I’m no good for him, and I’m nothing more than a convenient distraction while we’re stuck with each other.

It’s going to end in heartbreak.

But every time he smiles at me, I find myself falling a little bit more.

The Bonds We Break is a stand-alone mature new-adult romance but is best enjoyed after the previous four books in the series.

Mean girl's redemption!

The Bonds We Break is the fifth instalment of The Four and terrific addition to the series. Becca Steele's character and plot development are utterly phenomenal, and with each book, the series becomes better and better. The Bonds We Break is centred on Jessa and Cassius. The journey is a perfect balance of drama, steam, suspense, danger, and growth; it kept me totally tuned in. Jessa, the mean girl we love to hate, was abducted, and the tragic event forever altered her and her life. Nothing for Jessa will ever be the same. Cassius's easy-going and protective nature become Jessa's pillar. He becomes the glue that puts the broken pieces back together. Their story is wonderfully written, heartfelt, sweet, scorching, with a gratifying ending. I never imagined Jessa redeeming herself and me feeling empathic towards her, but Steel's made it happen. From tragedy and nightmares, redemption and love arose.

Stellar narration by Kelli Tager and Gregory Salinas. Their depiction of Jessa and Cassius personalities, emotions, and connection was spot-on. I really enjoyed their performance and Steel's writing. The Bonds We Break is a must listen, one I'll highly recommend.

Cassius and Jessa!

Jessa has experience both side of the spectrum as at one point she held all the power and control and at another point she was powerless and having no control. The girl you loved to hate is no more and even though you never thought it could happen you might just emphasize with the situation she now finds herself in.

Cassius is a loyal friend but when it comes to women, he likes to keep his relationships casual and emotion free. He and Jess have a past, but it never extended beyond a superficial level but now that she needs his help they are about to realize that they never really knew each other at all.

The chemistry between is intense but it is the way that Cassius gives Jessa the strength she needs to not only deal with the threat in the present but to deal with the trauma from the past as well. The narrators were a perfect choice for the story and the characters. 🎧 Audiobook Obsession

Good Listen

Jessa was the Queen B of her school until she was taken and now everything in her life has changed. Cassius is one of the poplar ones and now he is the only one that sees her for who she is. He brings her among his friends and they must see that she has changed because he is determined to keep her in his life.

So good.

I so loved coming back to the four. I enjoyed following up with characters I didn’t care for, and have them be focused on. The dialogue was performed really well by the narrators, and really made the story stand out. This author really uses her words to make an impact on the reader.

Cassius & Jessa!

Can I just say that I love the Four? I enjoyed listening to Wynter and Caiden’s story and the little elements that now lead us to Cassius and Jessa! Once Jessa was kidnapped by Little Finger, her life was never the same. Nightmares plague her nights, and she just can’t get back to the mean girl we all loved to hate prior to the tragedy. Cassius sees this and though he is the comedian of the group, he is seriously taking Jessa under his wing. His protectiveness and growing feelings lead to wanting to make her whole again. But the danger isn’t over, and her safety is at risk. Will he and the others be able to keep her safe? I loved Jessa in this book. She is a true heroine as she faces her fears and finds her new normal. Cassius proves to be a man we all want. He is protective and loving. The steamy scenes are passion filled and the suspense scenes thrilling. It’s a great addition to the Kings of Alstone College. Becca Steele has another winner!

Narrated by the talents of Gregory Salinas and Kelli Tager, we are treated to all the voices we know as The Four and the characters we love. I was so happy to see these two continuing the series, keeping the voices consistent and as we know them. Salinas has a fabulous English accent and brings all the alpha qualities to Cassius. Tager too nails the English accent as Jessa and pulls us into all the emotional turmoil she feels. It’s a fantastic team and wonderful listen.

The four series is one of my go to rereads and this book just carried on my love for it! Cassius is the playboy of the group that always gives off golden retriever vibes. I love his humour and the way he's always teasing everyone.

If you've read the previous books, then you might not have liked Jessa, however I had always held out hope that she would get a redemption arc and I'm so glad she did! There was a lot more to Jessa that we didn't get to see until this book and I love her just as much as all the others in this series. Understanding Jessa's trauma gave us another side to her as we watched her overcome it and grow!

These two go so well together, with their flirty banter and understanding of each other! Seeing that they can be themselves around each other and show sides they don't show others just made me love them more!

I loved seeing the whole gang again and its got me even more excited for Zayde's book!

My Thoughts on The Bonds We Break

I love a good Casanova meets his match type of story. But this one was done with such a twist that it took it to a whole new level.
Jessa honestly wasn’t likable in previous books. So it’s a testament to how good Becca Steele is in my opinion that she took this unlikable person from previous books and made her someone you connected with, felt bad for, and ultimately even rooted for. She had such growth across this book. And while it’s a shame that it took a horrific situation to instigate that change, I can still respect it because she could have easily gone another direction. She could have played the woe is me card or blamed the good guys for how she got into that situation. She didn’t do that though, she used it as an opportunity to change and grow.
Cassius on the other hand, who I’d loved from the first book, had moments where I wanted to shake him for not seeing what was right in front of him. Some of the things he said at times were so harsh and as unintentional as it may have been, were cruel even when she didn’t hear it. But of course, he redeemed himself by the end and I was right back to loving him.
I honestly have no complaints, only good things to say about the narration. The same voices have been bringing this series to life from the beginning and I have enjoyed them each and every time. Normally I’m a new voices for new couples person, but this is one of the few times I didn’t mind that the same voices continue throughout.

Mature New Adult Romance

The Bonds We Break by Becca Steele is a mature new adult romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Kelli Tager and Gregory Salinas.

This is the fifth book in The Four Series and can be read as a standalone. However, I would recommend reading the previous books since the stories are interconnected.

I absolutely love Becca’s books! I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I loved the relationship that bloomed between Cassius and Jessa. Their relationship is a bit messy, but they are perfect for each other. I loved that we got both of their points of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

I can't wait for Zayde's book to be announced!

Kelli and Gregory did an amazing job on the narration! I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this book if you like new adult romances or romantic suspense.

The Bonds We Break

This is the fifth book in The Four series. This is Cassius's book. Cassius is the playboy of the group. He is the last guy I thought would ever be satisfied by only one lover. Jessa use to be the IT Girl until winter came. Jessa and Winter paths had crossed in the past. Jessa's whole world has changed since that traumatic event that she got caught up in. She hasn't been the same. I really loved how perfect Cassius and Jessa are for each other. I can't wait to see what Zed's book will entail. Kelli Tager and Gregory Salinas both did an absolutely fantastic job narrating.

Wow…just wow do I love these two!

I really loved this one! First off I hated Jessa since we met her in earlier books. So I was not excited about a book for her. But this author did a thing….she made me like her. I Know! I was shocked as well! She touched a part of me and I couldn’t help it. She has a vulnerability about her that once I got to know her…I actually felt for her and hoped for the best. Cassius…well he is another subject all together. I enjoy his humorous, care free attitude. But as for settling down…No Way! Again I really loved watching the changes in him as the story evolved. Then here is the other Four..and how they know what is happening to him while he is blissfully ignorant.

This story is filled with suspense, twists and its emotional. I really loved it and felt these two have a wonderful story!

Excellent Addition to the series!

This is the fifth novel in The Four series, a Romantic Suspense. You have to listen to this series in order. The Bonds We Break is a standalone in an interconnected series. This is another great addition to the series. Cassius and Jessa's story is emotional, action packed, suspenseful, and captivating. Their relationship is passionate, and beautiful. Cassius is handsome, caring, and protective. Jessa wasn't a likable character in the previous book. I like how she redeemed herself in this book. She is a strong survivor. The author did an excellent job with the plot. The story is breathtakingly well written. I loved the twists and turns. Gregory Salinas and Kelli Tager did a fantastic job with the narration. I love their voices together. I enjoyed it. I HIGHLY recommend this Series. #TheFlock

Fantastic Story & Narration🎧 Seriously Captivating

Becca Steele pens another amazing novel set in “The Four” series world, featuring one of the secondary characters from the first four books who was also a major player in those stories. The story is written to stand on its own but I highly recommend not missing the first four books, not only because they are outstanding but knowing the characters backstories and history is beneficial and adds some depth, this is my opinion which is biased because I love this series. This book is Cassius “Cass” and Jessa’s story, Cass is best friends with Caiden, Weston and Zayde aka “The Four” and Jessa was the queen biotch who gave Winter hell when she arrived at Alstone. Because of a mistaken identity, she was dragged into the mess that the Four were uncovering in earlier books. The incident not only readjusted her attitude, but it changed the way she treated people. She continues to struggle with nightmares and PTSD and when the past comes back to get her, she turns to Cass for help. Cass offers her protection and brings her back to the house he shares with the others while they do their investigations. Cass is a real character, a playful jokester who is popular with the girls, ok, a man-whore, Jessa liked to play with the boys but she lost her desire after the incident but Cass stirs it back up for her. The chemistry between these two is electric, Cass is not looking for anything serious but they come up with a friends with benefits type of a deal, which leads to an exclusive agreement. All goes well until feeling get involved, Cass has a great heart and means well but he does not see what is in front of him and Jessa does not want to chance a broken heart, can these ever really be anything more? I loved how everything played out in this book, the story is both cleverly and beautifully plotted with plenty of drama, heartfelt emotions, some twists and turns, thrilling and suspenseful moments and hot romance. It was great to see the characters from the earlier books, it was also great watching them warm up to Jessa and start to let her in, most of all it was great to watch Cass, not only fall in love to but to admit to it. Becca Steele, thank you for another fabulous story and emotional roller coaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Gregory Salinas and Kelli Tager continue to do an amazing job bringing these characters and their stories to life. They had a complete understanding of the characters they portrayed, gave each a voice that suited their characters’ persona to a tee, sounding believable in every role they played and just as I pictured them to sound. Salinas nailed it in Cassius’ role, he grasped his personality with perfection, playfully cocky and Tager played Jessa perfectly too, capturing her every emotion. Both were great at performing the roles of the secondary characters as well. These superbly talented voice artists are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another exceptional listen.

The Four Series

The Bonds We Break (The Four, Book 5) is a new adult romantic suspense in The Four series. I love this series and the world building this author has created. I love how the author weaves the characters in this world and brings separate people into the same world together. Mind bending moments swooped into the pages, along with blood trickling suspense and unforseen twists. Cassius and Jessa's characters love story was told in dual pov and their relationship blossomed throughout the entire book bringing them their hea. Absolutely loved it. Looking forward to listening to what's next.

Kelli Tager, Gregory Salinas dual narration was a beautiful performance, utterly perfection. I love Kelli Tager's inflection and the way she performs the characters. Gregory Salinas has the personification of a seductiveness tone. I absolutely loved the dual narration.

Genre: Romance, suspense, Enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, friends with benefits
Standalone: Yes

4.5/5

The Bonds We Break is the fifth book in The Four series. While technically a standalone, this book is definitely best read in order of the series. In The Bonds We Break old enemies return and new bonds are formed and repaired. I really enjoyed this book. I've loved Cassius throughout the series. He's a jokester with a big heard. I loved that he was a baby and also a bada$$. Becca Steele has created a great world in Allstone and I want so many more stories - especially Zade and Creed.

Great standalone within the series

This series by Becca Steele is excellent. I loved this standalone within the series. Cassius and Jessa’s story surprised me. It was a slow burn romance. The time it took for them to except what was in their hearts was perfection. The suspense, twists and turns were heart stopping. I didn't want to pause the audio! At first I wasn't sure if I'd like this book but it turned out to be a favorite.

Kelli Tager and Gregory Salinas are excellent narrators. Both are favorites of mine. I loved the emotional performances of both narrators. Perfection.

Redemption, friendship and love

Becca nailed this story of redemption and her choice of characters caught me by surprise. The bond & relationship between the 2 main characters that developed wonderfully through the story. The redemption of the heroine was beautifully written, and her growth through the story felt real. The storyline is emotional, loving, steamy, mysterious, dramatic and humorous.
