A short but gritty and tense tale

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

The Book

The story was good with a nice lead in developing the character and then moving into the main plot itself. There is a lot of repetition of the phrase 'I don't know' at the end of a lot of the characters sentences, I do know a lot of people do say stuff like that all the time but it was a noticeable repetition on nearly every other sentence at times and even if it was a quirk of the character it was a little irritating.

The story itself was good starting out in quite an ordinary way but when things start to go badly there's a feeling of tension that slowly builds and the final confrontation is quite fraught and the appearance of a strange creature just adds to the sense of chaos.

The Production

The narration was good the gruff voice fitting the salesman quite well and was clear and easy to hear except when driving on noisy roads. The chapter numbers being read in a very different voice was a bit odd but its just chapter numbers so doesn't really matter.

Short Suspense Story

This was a short thriller novel. The story starts off telling about the life of a blade salesman and progresses into this fast-paced thriller. It was a nice quick listen that got the blood pumping. The ending was fantastic. McDaniel's also did a nice job with the narration.

That ending though!

This listen was the very definition of taut. It started slow and then progressed into a suspense that kept building until the incredibly surprising ending.

The blade man was a seller of hospital knives. He was a weird mix of tense and confident, professional and slacker, a good guy without the cape.

Major kudos to the author. Even much more since the author was also the narrator. Both were peak perfection.

Whatever you think about the beginning of this listen, the ending is the payoff!!
