Summary

A Sunday Times and Richard and Judy best seller and the first instalment in Peter May's sensational, million-selling Lewis trilogy.

A brutal killing takes place on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland: a land of harsh beauty and inhabitants of deep-rooted faith.

A Murder
Detective Inspector Fin Macleod is sent from Edinburgh to investigate. For Lewis-born Macleod, the case represents a journey both home and into his past.

A Secret
Something lurks within the close-knit island community. Something sinister.

A Trap
As Fin investigates, old skeletons begin to surface, and soon he, the hunter, becomes the hunted.

nostalgic island life

My first Peter May Book. Really enjoyed it even though it was more of looking back into the past, but it all tied in to the murder plot.

Kudos to both Peters!

The story got me completely immersed, the Scottish gloomy landscape playing a character in itself. I enjoyed it from beginning to end, with the last chapter offering a twist that I did not see coming.
I liked how the crime investigation intertwined with the personal background of the inspector who has a story of his own to tell the reader.

But what compelled me to write this review is the narrative by Peter Forbes. This was a masterpiece performance, with accents, intonations, all kinds of other nuances rendered so precisely that it made me feel like I was in the very heart of the events!

Well done, both Peters! I absolutely loved the experience!

superb with Peter Forbes voice

Gripping story. Peters descriptions capture the spirit of the Hebrides- you can almost smell the lochs and heather

Accidentally found this gem

Found this by accident really, after reading “The Man with no face”. And it was a gem, the descriptions of Lewis and the Guga hunting were just breathtaking...onto Book2 in the trilogy and looking forward to it immensely.

Super story

I listened to this based on other reviews and was definitely not disappointed. Character development is first class as is the description of the islands and life there.

The story line is compelling and the whodunnit keeps going to the very end. I have bought the next title already and looking forward to listening to the Finn's next chapter.

Gripping! And beautifully detailed.

If this was a paper book I'd say it was a page turner and I didn't want to put it down. The detailed descriptions of the main characters childhood on the island are magical and beautifully written. I enjoyed the reading too.
