Great book, Awful Reading

As a recovering alcoholic I love the Big Book but this audio book is read so badly it makes it impossible to listen to. There is a much better audio version for free to stream on the AA website

Do not buy this book

Terrible, read out by a computer voice, no feeling or intonation.

If you listen to this you will end up relapsing, like listening to white noise.

Do not buy this audio book.

I want my money back please.

Narration simply dreadful

The material is gritty, profound and helpful. However - the narration is simply DREADFUL. Unfortunately the robotic, broken and jagged style makes this very difficult to listen to. Such a disappointment as simply listening takes a huge effort purely down to the totally emotionless, broken and bland narration.

Brilliant book

Loved this fantastic book from start to finish. Loved the honesty of individuals struggles and the way in which this fellowship helped those with Addictions break this viscous downward spiral with love, kindness and the 12 steps. I also loved the prayers at the end of the book. I would recommend this book to anyone with any Addiction or any family members who are suffering along side the one who has the Addiction problems. I believe if taken seriously this programme can and will save your life. Thsnks alot. Pam 😊👍

Great book terrible narration

Great book but an absolute terrible narration. Who on earth paid this guy to read this amazing book needs to be made to listen to him . How did this guy actually get the job to read this book out loud. Please please have someone else read this book and delete this narration.

Big book of AA

Even though this book is read by a computer and the chapters are not in the correct order to the actual book, this is still a great tool for the suffering alcoholic to listen to at the end of the day does it matter how it is read the message is still there! for me I like it as I can listen to the big book on a daily basis while at work to remind myself it works if you work it.

Worst Narrator Ever!

What made the experience of listening to The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous (Including 12 Steps, Guides & Prayers ) the most enjoyable?

The book itself is a great book, but the narrator ruins the ENTIRE book. His reading is so choppy it's hard to tell when a sentence ends and when the next one begins.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Glenn Langohr?

I have never heard someone read so horribly. Anyone would work, besides Glenn Langohr.

Any additional comments?

Audible: Please have someone re-read this book.

I would not recommend this book.

Any additional comments?

There are better versions of this audible book. The message is the same but listening to it is very distracting. The reader pauses way too much while reading. Sometimes at EVERY word. I'm sorry I purchased it.

Big Book audible

What disappointed you about The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous (Including 12 Steps, Guides & Prayers )?

The information is great. The narration of this book is very poor. The delivery is choppy. The pacing distracts from the words. I will buy the book rather than listen to this.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I was listening to his poor delivery rather than the message. It was choppy and the pacing was very distracting.

Reintroduce the book using a better narrator.

Great book, poorly delivered

I’m sure the speaker cares about the subject matter but he is not able to deliver it in an interesting matter every half sentence he pauses which is equivalent to a metronome. This slow tempo lulls the listener into a state of Catalonia rendering the subject matter impenetrable.

Deserves a better recording.

Classic book that is the basis for many programs for overcoming various addictions. Recording is incredibly stilted and hard to listen to. Really needs to be rerecorded.

Wretched delivery of a great message

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This material deserves a much better performance. The reader's delivery is choppier than a Ginsu commercial. The reading is littered with jarring mispronunciations (Thoreau pronounced as if it were thorough, etc.). How many who needed to hear this were deprived of this message because they couldn't endure this abysmal performance?

Any additional comments?

Please, Audible, don't let this reader read the Bible; it might result in a tsunami of atheism.

Terrible

The narration is extremely bad. I've read other reviews pointing this out but wanted to implore audible to fix this. The Big Book is more than just a book. It's importance, especially to those who are new to AA can't be understated. This recording is filled with awkward pauses, mispronunciations and loud almost screaming sections, (which I'm assuming was editing patching in phrases). The product is so poor, it surprises me that this is on audible. I've not experienced this with other books.

It's just flat out weird.

Warning: ***DO NOT BUY*** Horribly Painful Reading

I'm not sure if Glenn Langohr was purposefully reading this book in a way to drive people away from AA, or whether he's simply ignorant of the quality of his reading. But any other reading of this book is better.

His utterly awful voice quality, pace, slurring of certain words, mispronunciation of other words, and terrible audio recording quality required me to return this audiobook.

As an added bonus, the "chapters" don't correlate with that of the actual printed book.

Inaudible

Worst recording ever! Sounds tinny and volume level fluctuates, sometimes mid-sentence. Should not even be available for purchase.
