Summary

From the darkest days of the Second World War comes an incredible story of a cover-up with staggering implications.

The death of a man in Bavaria in 2020 is the first in a long line of dominos to fall as a journalist searches to uncover the truth of his family’s very personal involvement in one of the greatest hidden episodes of the war. A highly secret pact is revealed between Nazi Germany and the Allies that few ever knew, could ever acknowledge, or even dare speak of.

The journalist’s investigation implicates governments, influential factions, and even royalty in an astounding disagreement at the heart of power triggering a major wartime constitutional crisis. His revelations are so dramatic that they will rock the foundations of present-day government and institutions, placing his own life at risk, as intelligence agencies seek to keep the information hidden.

And they want to keep it hidden.

Christopher Kerr has had a varied career as a civil servant, marketing executive, and entrepreneur. He now concentrates on writing, which has become a passion, based upon a keen interest in politics, and current affairs. Christopher’s genre is modern historical fiction, set against real life events, to give added authenticity, and perspective to human drama. His debut novel, Fission, was published in 2021, followed by The Barbarossa Secret in 2022, and Fission which will be published in mid 2023. Christopher lives in a village in North Wales, where he is working on his next novel, Bullion.

A really enjoyable listen

This was a great listen, I found the book hard going but as an audiobook the story and characters were brought to life.

I liked the balance between details of the times and the overall story. The pace was fast and interesting. The plot seemed plausible and I was invested in the story.

There are some nice twists big and subtle.

The narrator did a fine job and deserves thanks.

This audiobook is well worth a listen.

Ok ish

No not for me … one for the ladies I think so soon after International Woman’s Day so yes very valid and admirable. No I’m not threatened by strong female characters I just found it a bit pedestrian sorry really tried to like it. If I could give an example the lead female nice to know the type of hat matching shoes and handbag every party she goes to but I’m a bit old school
