Summary

The Bad Games Box Set includes:

Bad Games - the terrifying best seller that started it all. The Lambert Family is heading to Crescent Lake, a rural cabin community in Western Pennsylvania, for an idyllic weekend getaway. Some fishing, some barbecue, some games... The Fannelli brothers are heading to Crescent Lake, too. Some stalking, some kidnapping, some murder, definitely some games...though not necessarily the type of games the Lamberts had in mind. But it doesn't matter. The Lamberts are going to play whether they like it or not.

Vengeful Games - the Lambert family played the Fannelli brothers' twisted game and survived. Showed the brothers they'd messed with the wrong family. However, the game is far from over. There are some new players in town. Players who have close ties to the Fannelli brothers. Players who are taking things very personally...and promising results that are very deadly.

Bad Games: Hellbent - a year has passed. Marine and security specialist Domino Taylor shadows the Lambert family, the guilt he feels for the tragic events that unfolded in Western Pennsylvania haunting him without mercy. When someone from Domino's past contacts him, begging for his help, Domino reluctantly agrees, not knowing the sinister truth lying in wait: There is one final game yet to play.

Riveting!

You know when you have a series of books, and you think can the last one be as good as the first, well I thought Book Three was the best of all. Fantastic, Mr Menapace. Pleeeease don't ever stop writing.

Gary Tiedemann, you made every character come alive with the different nuances you used. Well done, I will definitely look for you when choosing an audio book again. Thank you for making the narration extra special.

A good listen

Go for it. Give it a try. This is a bargain anyway. Quite horrible at times, but in a good way. The sex scenes made me cringe hard! Plowed through book 1 and 2 but it's pretty depressing so I'm taking a break before 3. Looking forward to it though.

What a ride!

In Bad Games, book 1, the Lambert Family are heading for a nice, quiet, relaxing weekend in a cabin at Crescent Lake. Unbeknownst to them, along the way, they have attracted the attention of the Fannelli brothers. The brothers have included the family in one of their sick and twisted games. The family are being harassed and terrorized until the brothers decide the game has run it's course. The outcome of the games is usually death!

In Vengeful Games, book 2, the Lambert family barely survived, but they showed the brothers that they messed with the wrong family. But family sticks together, and when strange and deadly things start happening to the Lamberts again they ask their close friend Domino Taylor for help and they quickly realise that the Fannelli brothers had a family, and that family are bent on revenge.

In Bad Games: Hellbent, book 3, it's been a year and Domino is still protecting the Lamberts. Racked with guilt over a certain death, he is intent on keeping the family safe, but when someone from Dominos past asks for his help, he knows he has to say goodbye to the family. But someone else from his past is there to play one last game.

This series was amazing. This was pretty much a non stop psychological thrill the whole way through. What the family went through was horrible but I loved how the couple came together and did whatever they needed to do to help each other. Book 1 and 2 centers on the family and it was heartbreaking seeing what they went through, in both of the books. I was on the edge of my seat throughout!!

The brothers were absolute psychos! They think they are special because experts say that it's genetics that play a big role in how someone turns out, but the brothers were raised in a loving home. They think they are the exception to the rule and will be famous and studied when they are eventually caught. Not that they want to be caught, they enjoy the torture too much and love what they do! But from an early age, the brothers loved inflicting harm on others and notched their first kill at an early age. They were the worst of the worst. But in book 2 we are introduced to two more of the family and they were even worse!! It is definitely a family affair.

In all, a terrifying and thrilling read. Al three books kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. What both the family and Domino went through was terrifying and disturbing, but seeing their strength was amazing. The author has created some sick and twisted characters, but ones that will stay with me. I highly recommend this series!!

This isn't the first book narrated by Gary Tiedemann that I've listened to and it won't be my last. He really brought the story to life in this one!! His inflections and tones were perfect for the book and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

I was voluntarily provided this audiobook for free from the author, narrator, or publisher. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

What a psychotic horror ride!

I usually stick to reading/listening to fantasy and science fiction books, but I decided to try out the horror genre as I'm big fan of horror movies. I had no idea what I've been missing!

Story
What I enjoyed most with the story was the transitions between the family and killer story lines. It goes back and forth detailing the what the family is currently doing, then switches to what killers are planning during that same time period. It also gives you some crazy inner dialogue to what the killers are thinking. I found the killer inner dialogue parts twisted, but added a lot to the story and gave you a glimpse into their motives for their actions that I've not seen done as well as this before.

Performance
Gary did an excellent job at narrating both the killers and the different family members. I was able to easily understand which characters were talking and he provided different voices for each character making it easy to distinguish between them all. I'll be sure to check out other narrated books by Gary in the future!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Extremely satisfying suspense!

This is another book I meant to listen to ages ago but somehow forgot about. I got it because I am a fan of the narrator, Gary Tiedemann, who I think is highly underrated. But I think maybe on some level I hesitated to listen to the book because I was afraid it would be along the same lines as the movie "Funny Games," in which a family is brutally targeted by psychos and watch their children murdered in an essentially gratuitous fashion. I'm a fan of horror, but not the kind where children get slaughtered.

But this is not like that at all. There is a great deal of danger and true horror, but nothing evil or gratuitous. It's disturbing, but not twisted to the level that you'll wish you hadn't heard it. Everything that happens is something that organically arises from the plot. You should definitely still be worried, but not about pure sadism--at least not on the part of the author. The two brothers are total psychopaths. But honestly, they are some of the best villains I have read in a VERY long time.

I'm so glad I listened to this, and I very highly recommend it.

I received this book for free at my request (it was on my wish list at the time) and have voluntarily left this review. This did not affect my opinion, and in hindsight I would definitely spend a credit on it.

Amazingly disturbingly awesome!

Jeff Menapace is awesome! I don't want to spoil anything, but a family is tormented by a some very disturbed individuals on vacation, and that's just the first book. Gary Tiedemann is amazing in his delivery and does a fabulous job setting the mood and creating suspense! I love love love this trilogy! I will certainly listen to more by this author and narrator! I will definitely be getting the next book in the series! I received a free review copy of this book at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you!

Great, Good, Ok - In That Order

I got this when I was trying to stretch my credits into the longest possible stories and I will say I was not upset with my purchase. Other reviews pointed out that it's a good, strong story (and I agree with that for the most part) and that it was in the vein of Stephen King (I do not agree so strongly with that statement).

The story reminds me of Funny Games, but does well to stand on its own as an original story. The first book is creative and does a good job of ramping up the suspense and has a good level of wtf imagery. It is even mostly believable and all too easy to put ones self into the unsuspecting, and unprepared, family's shoes, which adds to the feel of dread. Very well done.

Book 2 ramps up the action and establishes itself as a good, separate story although it loses some of the energy of the first one. Not a bad book by any means and the shift of tone means you're not just listening to the events of the first book in a different setting. Take away the creepiness and the sense of dread, but add in more action and the experience of everyone involved and you get a good sequel.

By book 3 we've left the rails of anything resembling reality and we're in full blown movie territory. One thing I liked is that it did not do what so many series do and just circle back to the original story. It continues the story from books 1 and 2, but loses even more steam and you feel like the author is just going for resolution at this point. Everything is bigger and louder and just feels like it's exaggerated.

I will say that if each book was its own story it might not have felt this way, but the first book set the bar high and each successive one just couldn't quite attain it.

The narrator does a good job of pacing and has some inflection that helps the tone and atmosphere. No real complaints there and he doesn't try to make himself sound like a very youthful child or a perky young woman. I appreciate that.

Overall, I enjoyed the series and Menapace is an author I would be willing to find again. Separately, I'd give the following ratings:
Book 1 - 4 stars
Book 2 - 3 stars
Book 3 - 3 stars

What a nice surprise.

I really enjoyed this series. Normally, I am the first one to shy away from a series, with the exception of the Dark Tower. This one caught my attention and I am glad I took a chance.

I was hooked from the get go. Loved the characters, the story, and the narration was outstanding. Thanks for the experience, Mr. Menapace!

Oh yes. Couldn't turn it off... WOW!

Just do it. Get it and listen. Or read, whichever. Fantastic trilogy. I could not turn it off. It has interfered with my work and my life. Lol. And boy was it totally worth it!

I do believe I have found my favorite author! Jeff Menapace is an incredible writer.

I've heard there's a 4th book. I am looking for it now.

More gory than scary

No suspense whatsoever. We know on page 1 of each book who the psychopath is. Very much like a “B” horror movie & as such, not very realistic. No killer would slice someone’s throat in broad daylight, spit on the body, flick their cigarette, & drive off in a stolen BMW & get away from situations like this over & over. But, I did manage to finish it just because of the gore & sex. Just beware that this is NOT imaginative or anything like King, etc
