Summary

In July 2004, Barack Obama electrified the Democratic National Convention with an address that spoke to Americans across the political spectrum. Now, in The Audacity of Hope, Senator Obama calls for a different brand of politics: a politics for those weary of bitter partisanship and alienated by the "endless clash of armies" we see in Congress and on the campaign trail; a politics rooted in the faith, inclusiveness, and nobility of spirit at the heart of "our improbable experiment in democracy". He also speaks, with surprising intimacy and self-deprecating humor, about settling in as a senator, seeking to balance the demands of public service and family life, and his own deepening religious commitment.

At the heart of this audiobook is Senator Obama's vision of how we can move beyond our divisions to tackle concrete problems. Underlying his stories about family, friends, members of the Senate, and even the president is a vigorous search for connection: the foundation for a radically hopeful political consensus.

A senator and a lawyer, a professor and a father, a Christian and a skeptic, and above all a student of history and human nature, Senator Obama has written a book of transforming power.

great story and I love it every word of the book.

it shows what a great leader he is Barak Obama and what great team he had behind the scenes. I called them the unsung heroes of Barak Obama administration. They influenced policies and direction of political wind is blowing in everyday of his administration. I salute to them because it was had work and they showed good judgement in their choices of which letter should go to the President every night.

Free Sample of a Great Book

I'll always remember this as the first political book I ever read and was actually inspired by. I read it in 2008 in paperback, while deciding who to vote for for President, and it was so good and so memorable that I started giving copies away to friends. Though it's more than a little bit heartbreaking to read/listen now because of the partisan (and, many of us would say, racist) obstructionism that prevented most of the author's hopes for American progress from being realized, I was still delighted to find it in Audible format and will likely use a credit now on the full version. We never before had so intelligent, articulate, dignified and classy a President in my conscious lifetime, and heaven knows we likely won't see his equal again for many, many years, if ever. Thank you so much for your service; you will be sorely missed, sir. And thanks to Audible, for making this free sample available!

I am glad I voted for Obama

After listening to Obama narrate his book I now understand how he has reached the place where he is...what a pleasure it was to hear him speak about so many different subjects with his unique, holistic approach. I can relate to his mother's philosophy of life and have a deeper appreciation of his sincere intention for being a global citizen. His Mother and Grandmother, I am sure, are proudly watching him from afar. Here Here to them, and to him for his courage to follow his heart and honor the women in his life. Keep it up President Barack Obama, and make all of the Mothers of the World proud of you. Thank you, Deborah in Woodstock, NY

Free Book - But Just 4 Minutes?

I don't mind it, but why posting a book that lasts 4 minutes (I understand I've overlooked that but still - not really a book).

Otherwise, can't hate on the speech of one of the most influential people in the world.

Audacity of Hope

Too short of an excerpt, though it did pique my interest. I miss a decent man/person in the White House.

great excerpt

This was a wonderful excerpt. It made me want to hear the whole book. He has a wonderful voice for narration unlike some authors and it was very comforting.
