Summary

The practice of meditation, according to Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh, is like the power of the sun, illuminating the areas of our life that dwell in darkness. Instead of suppressing anger, fear, and guilt, Hanh suggests that we should be mindful of these emotions, which will allow our natural patience and appreciation for life to unfold. Recorded during an intimate family retreat, The Art of Mindful Living presents Thich Nhat Hanh's practical, traditional gathas (teachings) that join ancient meditation practice with the challenges of the modern world. It includes step-by-step guides to meditation, breathing exercises, contemplation, and communication, opening our hearts and minds to the joyous wonder of tranquility and love.

Not bad

If you could sum up The Art of Mindful Living in three words, what would they be?

Meh it's O.K

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Art of Mindful Living?

"When a cloud becomes rain it does not make a fuss like we do."

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Thich's accent and broken English make it a little difficult at times.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Thundermonk 2 turbo: the monkening

Any additional comments?

I wish he wouldn't talk about god and heaven so much. It's pretty clear he doesn't beleive in them. It also seems evident that he does not believe much in reincarnation or karma either, but I could be wrong. I wish he would speak more plainly, rather than in coy riddles and metaphors about god and heaven and trees being made of sunlight, but perhaps that style suits some people. I don't mind him not believing in those things, would just prefer that he not hide his skepticism behind coy and florid speach.

loved it, although I was sceptical to start with.

The book is quite easy to sit through and great for getting you into a meditative state and good for anchoring future practice.

Well read, but maybe a bit short to learn a lot

A well read and relaxing audiobook, I would have liked to hear a few more talks to enjoy it more, but otherwise very good. The reader might have trouble with Thich's accent.
