Summary

Discover your unique female archetype to combat emotional eating, lose weight, and become your happiest, healthiest you.

In working with thousands of women who wanted to lose weight and change the shape of their bodies, leading nutritionist and functional medicine practitioner Dana James observed a striking trend: no matter how diligent they were in sticking to their diet and exercise plans, old behavioral patterns and self-doubt sabotaged their efforts. In The Archetype Diet, James helps listeners escape the seemingly endless psychological tug-of-war that is hampering their ability to care for themselves and explains which hormones cause you to store body fat on your belly, thighs and hips, and what to eat to change it. A revolutionary, holistic approach to weight loss, this book guides listeners in discovering which of four archetypes they embody:

  • The Nurturer is always there to care for others. She is kind and compassionate, but this can come at the expense of her own self-care.
  • The Wonder Woman bases her self-worth on her accomplishments. She is ambitious and driven, but her work often takes precendent over her diet.
  • The Femme Fatale is sensual, strong, and alluring but can become obsessed with her looks to the point that she develops an unhealthy relationship with food.
  • The Ethereal is spiritual and intuitive, but highly sensitive to her environment so she tends to eat to numb her reactions to the world.

By becoming attuned to your archetype, James shows how you can alter your diet to help feed your unique body chemistry while simultaneously examining how your sense of self-worth shapes your behaviors - including what you eat - in ways that may be working against your goals. Offering recipes, a 10-day meal plan, and a step-by-step psychological intervention, The Archetype Diet will put you on the path to becoming leaner, stronger, and more attuned to your feminine fire and energy.

Includes a bonus PDF with meal plans, recipes, exercises, and the full appendices.

Bought the book too!

Didn't think I'd like it at first. So many self help books end up monotone and hard to listen through. I made it to chapter two and knew it was meant to be. This really fit my need, transforming my attitude towards dieting. After listening and recommending it to many friends, I bought the book.

Perfect combination of science and ancient wisdom

Donna James has written a life changing book that is far more than just a food program. The combination of ancient esoteric practices, hard science, psychology and metaphysics is a whole life program that will open possibilities for rebalancing of individual and collective women.

It a list, not a book

I heard Dana talk on a podcast. She was fun and had interesting things to say. So I bought the book, and what a disappointment! This is not a book, there is serious lack of stories here, the "book" is basically a long list. Plus that she is not a good reader even though she is a good talker in person.

Valuable

I struggled to get into this book at first because it seemed to me that it made a lot of assumptions/general statements about women that I didn't relate to, like all women are chronic dieters, or all women feel guilty eating pasta. I also didn't understand the archetype model at first read. But I have since listened and read through multiple times because there is so much valuable information and guidance in this book. It's a holistic, self-love approach to changing eating habits, with the goal being a rich vibrant life full of what matters to you personally. It also centers around 2 things that I have always believed and rarely seen acknowledged; People with different body chemistries have different needs. And, if you have emotional issues surrounding food, forcing yourself to follow a diet without working through those emotions will never be sustainable. I wasn't able to fully jump into the program right away, but it was easy to incorporate bits and pieces and begin changing my habits. This book is a life-changer!

I love the deep subconscious work on the WHY’S

I really enjoyed Dana’s exploration and connection to mind and body, rewriting your stories that trigger memories and how we relate it to our self worth. How that also develops our choice of food and addictions. I haven’t followed my archetype diet type yet so I cannot give any praise on results just yet. But I love the use of science and spirituality.

Game Changer

Loved the audiobook but went out a bought three hard copies as gifts for my mom, sister, and best friend. I've listened to it twice. This book has been a catalyst for a complete lifestyle upgrade.
