Story
When the end of the world arrived, it came not with a bang, as most expected, but with more of a "pfft" instead. Humanity has been torn asunder and brought to the edge of total annihilation in less than an hour. For those who died, it was a quick death, so fast that their brains didn't have time to process the pain signals from their nerves. For those who survived, the true horror is about to begin as they struggle to not only stay alive, but come to grips with the shocking realization about what - and who - was responsible.

In the jungles of Uganda, Ebola has mutated into an airborne strain. Now, all it takes is a little nudge, and the virus explodes across the planet. Panic, disbelief, and disinformation leave people unprepared to react. They hoard. They flee. They turn to violence. Austin Cooper is stranded in Africa, at the epicenter of the outbreak. His sister, an NSA analyst, is pulling strings to locate him, while trying to understand what is going on. In Colorado, Austin's parents are fighting to stay alive as millions are infected. And then billions.

Good Easy Listen
I would say that I am veracious reader and listener and get through a few books/ Audio books a week. I have eclectic tastes which range from Jeffrey Archer to Stephen King, my main genres are Fantasy and Sci-fi. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Ok so firstly let me address the elephant in the room the 3 stars doesn't mean this isn't a good book in my opinion it is a good but just not a very good or excellent book and I will be buying the follow on trilogy with my very own hard earned credit. As usual I wont give away spoilers or cover to much of the overall plot. Narration - Adam Barr does a really good job and his range is excellent he is easy to listen to and the characters are easy to differentiate. The reason I didn't give 5 stars was because I felt the English accent on two of the characters were off they seemed to be better placed in a dickens novel that one set in the near future. What I would say in Adam Barr defence there is a reference to him having a clipped accent but in my opinion its a little much. With regard to the story its self its told from the perspective of the main protagonist looking back whilst writing down his story as it is written in this style there is also commentary in some parts adding information which was gained at a later date to the current part of the story. The other thing that this caused for me was a lack of fear or threat for the main character as however dangerous the situation you knew he would be ok. The premise of the story is a very good one and a slightly different take on a post apocalyptic genre I did however feel that this felt like it was for a younger audience late teens maybe. I found it hard to believe at times that the main characters were aged between 12-15 it was a challenge to keep referring to them as Kids as there actions for me appeared to be more adult. I personally felt that the technology used in the book was not as well researched as it could of been and for people experienced or knowing about certain technologies and techniques it left some of the parts boarding on unbelievable. There were a few instances of errors in my opinion when referencing Karate and Kung Fu but again this was only a minor issue. For me this was not a deep game changing book but hey not every book can be that or even needs to be that I've enjoyed the easy listening to be honest and its been a great cleanser and like I started my review with I will be purchasing the next set.

Good storyline.....
The book feels a little 'young' but maybe that was intended? I dont know. It's quite far fetched in places and unrealistic in a 'Karate Kid' kinda way.... no one feels 100% recovered after a gun shot to the abdomen after a short sleep no matter how tough you are... there where a few elements that felt like 'terminator' in episode 3 and although I enjoyed the story I did go check to see if I'd bought a 'teen fiction' book. I mean, I like some teen fiction books so it wasnt all bad, but I did have a few 'ahhh cum'mon!' eye roll moments! The positives were, the kids had real character and their personalities started to show through, although there wasnt any real development or back stories to some and some parts of the book felt they lacked something. The author showed real potential to draw you in and paint a vivid picture of some scenes so you felt part of it all. I mostly enjoyed the narrator but his english accent is a little weird.... we dont all speak with a plum in our mouth and at times the twins sounded like badly acted baddies! likewise the chinese accents were off kilter too but you could kinda follow who was who. Overall I enjoyed the story and would recommend it to a teenager, it has that kind of feel to it, I bit like Horowitz' Alex Rider. Maybe that was the Authors intention, to give it that teenagers POV? The story has me hooked enough to invest in the next 3 episodes so.....🤷♀️

Interesting Tale
The characters are interesting if older than what the author says. The book wasn't heavy but was intriguing. The plot was resolved at the end of each book but with mysteries left to be resolved. The author doesn't shy from violence it isn't gratuitous. I enjoyed the narration more than I thought I would and will happily pick up any book narrated by him in the future. frustrating
good story and kept my interest. but the main character makes life way too difficult for himself and gets far too many of his people killed or seriously injured by going so far out of his way to not kill his enemies. usually when someone tries to kill you, more than once, SAYS they're gonna kill you, KILLS your friends, threatens to kill more, is obviously an evil person and deserves to die...... you'd just kill them the first chance you got so they don't kill you or anyone else, again. well this kid just refuses to!! he CONSTANTLY let's people go just so they can come back 10 min later and cause more damage and try to kill him again. then he gets the upper hand and is in a position to end it all, but AGAIN let's the bad guys go! over and over again! towards the end youre basically rooting for the bad guy because the kid basically deserves what he gets.

Pretty good
I am a bit cautious on post-apocalyptic-style books, as many seem to try too hard to be overly detailed on useless information. This series was a good break from that. The only bad part is that the next 3 books aren’t available on audible yet.

Entertaining
If your a fan of the walking dead and the 100 then you will love this book. It has a predictable plot due to the elements being over used within the past couple of years but is still very enjoyable. Personally I could not stop listening and finished within 2 days of starting the book. The only thing I did not care for was that it ends on a drop, not even a clif hanger. There was resolution to current predicaments but no over all wrap up which I find annoying. But I suppose there will be more books and if so I can over look this issue. I received this book for free in return for an unbiased review and I'm very glad that I did. I would definitely recomend this book to all of my friends and family.
