Summary

Journalism graduate student Kate McDermott is a good girl who has done everything she can to please her very powerful and domineering father - a Justice on New York's Supreme Court, with hopes for political office. When she decides to write an article about BDSM in popular culture, she tells herself it's just research and nothing personal, for she can't afford to become the target of gossip or scandal. She hopes that the carefully worded agreement she writes up will keep her relationship with the Dominant she will interview strictly professional.

Then "Master D" - Drake Morgan - walks into the interview and Kate is mortified for not only is he gorgeous, he's the son of her father's best and oldest friend...

Drake Morgan, MD, bass player, philanthropist - Dominant. Known as Master 'D' in Manhattan's BDSM Community, Drake must keep the kinky side of his life secret to protect his very successful career as a neurosurgeon. After a heartbreaking divorce, Drake doesn't do girlfriends, he doesn't do sleepovers, and he certainly doesn't do breakfast in bed the morning after. He keeps everything in his well-ordered life separate and under his firm control.

Then Kate McDermott crosses his path and screws everything up. Now, nothing is neat and tidy anymore. And no longer under control, for Drake is smitten and things are going to get messy....

A really enjoyable read

If you are a fan of Fifty Shades then it is probable you will like this book. What I enjoyed about this book is watching Kate explore and discover her own sexual desires. There's kink, but it's not too much, which actually I felt worked really well. Kate's questions, her insecurities, were open for the reader to see, and it was wonderful how the relationship between Drake and her developed. Drake is a strong male character, and there is something very likeable about him. The references to Pride And Prejudice were slightly irritating, as was the use of for, "for he, for I ...". But apart from that it was a really enjoyable, easy to read book, and I am looking forward to reading the next in series.

Lightly kinky - became repetitive.

Drake sounded like a honey, but it all became tiresome. She cried a lot, some women do I suppose. I became easily bored with the whole scenario.
underwhelmed.
well narrated.

Rather weak in too many areas.

I found this book to be a little repetitive with it's sex scenes, although some of them are good.

This is also a poor BDSM novel, and so I'd look elsewhere if that is what you want. I think there is only one scene with bondage that I recall, one light spanking and the other elaborated scenes are vanilla sex only. And I found the idea of using a safe word to equal we stop and I go home rather lame, given it should always mean this, and certainly shouldn't mean you quit rather than deal with why the safe word was used.

I found the D/S to be equally bad. The Dom breaks fair few of his rules, which does not equal trust. He doesn't listen to her when she wants space, and all but stalks her and bombards her with calls, texts and visits when he doesn't get his way etc. And we keep getting told she is smart, but after weeks she still can't remember to call him master for more than two minutes at a time, and never gets punished for this or countless other rule breaches.

The worst part for me was the cringe worthy moment Mr vanilla Dom gives an unprompted class to his peers on how to give an over the knee spanking at a fetish party. Very teach your grandmother to suck eggs moment.

I'm sure this book will appeal to some for some of the sex scenes and the rather done to death romance style, but it's BDSM content is pretty laughable for me.
