About this listen
In a single night, Thorne lost everything. What he gained was far more dangerous.
Thorne’s world is thrown into chaos when he uncovers the truth about his heritage. He is an Aetherborn, tied to an ancient power that others would kill to control. Forced from his home, he must survive on the streets, relying on his cunning and newfound abilities to navigate ruthless guilds and dangerous factions.
To realize his near limitless potential, Thorne must become a master of masks and countless skills. Assassin. Hunter. Strategist. Mage. The further Thorne walks along the path of power, the more they intersect in a complex web of deceit.
Trust the wrong person, reveal too much…and he stands to lose it all.
Dive into an epic adventure that follows an ambitious MC as he claws his way to the heights of power, mastering blades and magic alike. Perfect for fans of King’s Dark Tidings!

The story follows a natural progression from childhood to hardened young adult, and that growth feels earned every step of the way. He survives by using his brains, wit, and strength without ever becoming boringly overpowered. The power curve feels controlled and believable.
The worldbuilding is strong, and the supporting characters are actually interesting. Thankfully, the story doesn’t suffer from “too many perspectives.” We stay focused on the main character.... and finally not some random side character we don’t care about....
It’s also not overly stat-heavy. The numbers add flavor to the progression without dominating the narrative, which I really appreciated.
This first book is very much a slow burn. It covers his growth from kid to teenager (which in their world basically means adult, around 12–14).
There’s a lot of groundwork being laid: worldbuilding, political tension, plot threads stacking up, but never in an overwhelming way.
I ended up marathoning the whole thing, so that should say something.
The narrator does a great job too, good vocal range, distinct voices, and solid emotional delivery.
What starts off as a seemingly normal world slowly creeps into darker fantasy territory. As someone who enjoys grimmer storytelling, that shift really worked for me. If you like more mature, grounded progression fantasy, you’re in the right place.
I just hope this isn’t the last book
Psssst yes...

Author/Story- Totally next level story line. 10 out of 10 book. Character building of the MC was well paced.
