Summary

In the 1920s, Alfred Hitchcock, the son of a shopkeeper, embarked on a career in the fledgling movie industry, and things were never the same again. From silence to sound, from monochrome to colour, from cinema to television, no other film director would stake such a large claim to entertainment in the twentieth century.

In this special series of episodes, hear all about Hitchcock's beginnings, his triumphs and failures, the battles that raged behind the scenes, the people that helped him become the most iconic director of all time, and the darkness inside him that emerged from time to time to cause damage to himself and to those closest to him....

As an Audio Show - free for members - when you add The Adventures of Alfred Hitchcock to your library, you'll get all 29 episodes, with runtimes varying from 20 to 60 minutes.

An excellent addition to the series

Another interesting listen in the consistently entertaining 'The Secret History of Hollywood' series. Can we be greedy and ask for an audiobook on Charlie Chaplin?

Loved every word, everything about this was fascinating and the end had me in tears. Ive listen to all of Adams work available. I do hope he does more. There is nothing like it, truly great for anyone who loves films and film makers

A wonderful journey

Excellent, sensitive, detailed storytelling. The narration starts a bit "thrilling" but evolves to perfection. Genuine and moving.

Great story spoiled by intrusive music

This is a great story, and is generally enjoyable, but is spoiled by constant music playing in the background which swells in volume every time the reader pauses. This is a well-known radio 'no-no' as it makes it difficult to focus on the voice of the reader, especially for some older listeners. On occasion the volume swells to an uncomfortable level when listening on headphones. In one particular part, a song is played which also has vocals which results in the listener being bombarded by multiple voices.
Please be more gentle with the music on future productions, or just leave it out. We can cope with a bit of silence between sentences!
Aside from this problem, Adam Roche's delivery is much improved from 'A Universe of Horrors', with a much more settled style. Both of these titles could have benefited from someone checking them though as both suffer from errors such as 'chapter 50' being announced randomly at he beginning of one episode, where there are only 29 episodes.
