Summary

In the 1920s, Alfred Hitchcock, the son of a shopkeeper, embarked on a career in the fledgling movie industry, and things were never the same again. From silence to sound, from monochrome to colour, from cinema to television, no other film director would stake such a large claim to entertainment in the twentieth century.

In this special series of episodes, hear all about Hitchcock's beginnings, his triumphs and failures, the battles that raged behind the scenes, the people that helped him become the most iconic director of all time, and the darkness inside him that emerged from time to time to cause damage to himself and to those closest to him....

An excellent addition to the series

Another interesting listen in the consistently entertaining 'The Secret History of Hollywood' series. Can we be greedy and ask for an audiobook on Charlie Chaplin?

What a cracker

I have only just discovered Adam Roche and his titles (I have them all) I am completely captivated by his delivery and the quality and passion, which is evident by the quality of his narration. He comes across as devoted to his subject and the content detail to all the stories is fantastic. More titles please, I could listen to you all day long.

Essential for fans of Hitch and early Hollywood

Detailed but never boring. Covers the man, the movies, the actors and periphery people surrounding Hitchcock's life and work.
It's packed full of interesting information about the inner workings of classic era Hollywood. It's well read with nice ambient music and some audio clips inserted.

Amazing listen: Captivates, soothe & educates

Literally everything Adam Roche has done to date has proved to be tremendous and I was delighted to see he found a home on Audible. I learned more about Hitchcock in this series than I ever did in film school. Loved it.

Suspense and intrigue.

For fans of Hitchcock this is unmissable. From start to finish you are drawn into the world of Hitchcock and those closet to him. A fabulous insight into his personal, public and professional life as well as some fascinating tales of Hollywood’s golden age. The pacing and layout of this audio documentary style production was always captivating and never grew tiresome. This is one I will listen to again once I’ve rewatched all Hitch’s movies.
