Story
After years of teaching intermediate students who never seemed to improve, I decided to find out what the problem was. Essentially, intermediate students get stuck because learning at this stage is a different type of learning than at the beginner stage. You have mastered the grammar and the basic vocabulary, but most textbooks just carry on like nothing has changed. However, what you need at the intermediate stage is not just more dry grammar and lists of vocabulary.

Really helpful audiobook . I’m confident when speaking in English and when I bought this book I thought let’s check out. I was really surprised by the amount of phrases that are used by natives but I never used them. Love this audiobook. If you have a hard time trying to be fluent in English, then this might be for you. The downside of this audiobook is that they don’t mention a lot about grammar. I guess learning thru active listening will pick up the grammar rule. Check this audiobook out.

I didn’t expect this to improve my listening skills, but it did. It's been 4 weeks since I started to participate and now I can understand for the first time documentaries in English without subtitles. I know this audiobook is for improving the way you speak, but it also help my listening skill. Some part of the recording is a bit too fast. That is the only downside. I like it! It's practical and full of advice.
It's an advanced English learning guide so it's suitable for people with higher level of English. Not for a total beginner. Whitney has done a perfect job in introducing her useful methods for achieving a high fluency in the English language. Self-confidence is a major key to success. Overcoming psychological barriers is indispensable. Listening and reading are the keystones to attaining high proficiency - no doubt. Yet I have some mild reservations regarding Whitney sweeping remarks about school methods practiced in general. Are schools always to blame? Do they always want their pupils to be passive and inactive during lessons rather than being lively and responsive? As far as I remember some of my teachers were very enthusiastic about having their pupils talking English in class. Most of them did not like an indifferent class. Is grammar teaching that obsessive as Whitney claims it to be? I'm not sure. Although we did study grammar in a way that might be considered tedious in some way (especially in the low grades of elementary school), a great amount of English teaching was focused on stories, vocabulary, and expressing yourself. Another aspect that must be mentioned is that pupils, in many cases, lack motivation- not that school methods are that bad! But certainly, I must admit, frontal teaching is not as good as the methods presented in this book. Nice enlightening audiobook! One more thing! Try the Shadowing technique from the book. It really improved my English in only a few weeks.

Practical tips
Becoming aware of what is interfering with your language progress is very important. Identify that which interferes with your progress and proceed to learn and master the shadowing technique. The mastery of this technique (repetitive shadowing) will absolutely take care of your fluency and more. I would suggest calibrating the audio speed of your application--to help the brain to process the language comfortably, so to speak-- before starting shadowing.
