Summary

Tensions are escalating between England and Napoleon's France. While the Royal Navy launches reconnaissance, rescue missions, and spies on the continent, French privateer ships are lurking in English waters poised to strike at British trade. Meanwhile, smugglers and storms threaten to overcome HMS Teazer.

different

To much about his personal life for me, not really a classic story, will keep going with the series though

As expected another great listen, twists & turns in tales of the sea and friendships

A worthy read but not a series highlight

The Kydd series is a very worthy addition to any fan of nautical or historical military fiction. This book contains a lot of the characteristics of the overall series including the well researched descriptions of 19th centurt life but for me at least doesn't quite hit the heights of some of the others. Kydd behaves just too much like a love-sick teenager and the action is more limited. Christian Rodska does his normal fine job and I love him as a narrator but romance probably isn't exactly his sweet spot.

It's still worth reading and subsequent books return to form but it didn't quite reach the same heights for my tastes as most of the other books.

Firm favourite

My favourite in the series so far. Stockwins story lines over the past two books have really hit the Mark and the narration is superlative.

Worst book of the seires

A big let-down. Better to steer clear of this book as it is to the series - a lee shore in a gale.

destroyed the series for me

Predictable drivel, great narration as always. No desire to continue with the series, focus on what your readers want.

Disappointing and a bit predictable

This episode of Tom Kydd;s life misses out on many of the things that made the previous novels so engrossing. A bit too much society and not enough action. Very disappointing ending .

Worst yet :(

Most boring yet, very poorly written love story with some boats in. Will skip next until it’s back to being about navy.

More Sense & Sensibility than a swashbuckling yarn

Stockwin veers off course in this'un to a slightly dragging tale dominated by society and courtship at the detriment of naval adventure.
