Summary

Lucy Arigho's first encounter with Greg Millar is far from promising, but she soon realises he possesses a charm that is impossible to resist. Just eight whirlwind weeks after their first meeting, level-headed career girl Lucy is seriously considering his pleas to marry him and asking herself if she could really be stepmother material.

But before Lucy can make a final decision about becoming part of Greg's world, events plunge her right into it. On holiday in the South of France, things start to unravel. Her future stepchildren won't accept her, the interfering nanny resents her, and they're stuck in a heat wave that won't let up. And then there's Greg. His behaviour becomes increasingly bizarre and Lucy begins to wonder whether his larger-than-life personality hides something darker - and whether she knows him at all.

Disappointing.... I'm giving up!

I was intrigued when I started this book... we meet Lucy, successful graphic designer and quickly learn she's had a significant bereavement she hasn't recovered from. Enter Greg Millar, world famous author who takes an interest in Lucy and she takes a leap of faith to start a relationship with him. There is a whirlwind romance and all is going well until.... well I can't tell you because it would spoil the story... however, for me, as the story progresses I got so sick of Greg Millar and even more sick of Lucy for putting up with him. He's an idiot and she's a door mat and I ran out of patience to see how things ended as I found I didn't care. I didn't have any real investment in either of them.

I listened to this on audiobook. The narrator has a lovely voice, it's nice to listen to - but the character voices were not distinct and I struggled to determine who was speaking. Also at times there were strange pauses mid sentence as though the narrator had lost her place or thought she was at the end of the sentence but wasn't.

I gave up about half way... disappointing for me.

Surprising and moving

There are lots of twists and turns in the plot and I became invested in all the characters. I did do the "guess what's going to happen" a là Agatha Christie plotlines and sometimes I was right although not always ( no there isn't a murder although you'd like it to happen to some of the characters).

Loved it.

Entertaining, interesting, yet addressed an issue that is a real problem in our society. Page-turner!
