Summary

In his nearly 30 years of teaching leadership, John Maxwell has encountered this question again and again: How do I apply leadership principles if I'm not the boss? It's a valid question that Maxwell answers in The 360-Degree Leader. You don't have to be the main leader, asserts Maxwell, to make significant impact in your organization. Good leaders are not only capable of leading their followers but are also adept at leading their superiors and their peers. Debunking myths and shedding light on the challenges, John Maxwell offers specific principles for Leading Down, Leading Up, and Leading Across. 360-Degree Leaders can lead effectively, regardless of their position in an organization. By applying Maxwell's principles, you will expand your influence and ultimately be a more valuable team member.

Fantastic Read

This book applies to everyone because it addresses how to lead people from above, below, and next to you. It's a very holistic approach to managing people like your boss, your co-workers, and your underlings. Read it and you'll be more effective.

Leaders will want their employees to read this

This book has some great material within. I have read a number of books about leadership over the past couple of years, and I believe this one to have a lot of the important material from each placed into one book. In addition, this book gives good tips on how to work with other ambitious people and still succeed, as well as how to really help your superiors in a way that helps you and your organization. This book is great for anyone who wants to succeed as a professional

The Audio book is abridged

The main reason why I bought this audio book is to help me read the actual book. I am disappointed after realising that some contents of the book were excluded from the audio book. I found it difficult to read and listen to the audiobook because they were not in sync. The book is abridged not unabridged and the statement from Audible is inaccurate.

360 Degrees . . . 100% Effective

The more I listen to this packed-full-of-soon-to-be-classic I realize that Dr. Maxwell's teachings apply and will help in every aspect of my life. It is only up to me to follow his guidance. Thanks, Doctor.

Exceptionally Expected

Where does The 360-Degree Leader rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book is well executed in terms of audio books. It reads well, and even holds up nicely when you accelerate the speed of delivery. As a book, it is not terribly revolutionary; that is none of the ideas presented within are mind-blowing or game-changing in any way. In-fact, the title tells you almost everything you need to know about this book before you even pick it up. For someone who is new to the formal workplace, or who has not read into corporate leadership at all this book will likely be useful and I would recommend it. It presents some concepts that, while mundane to me, could be novel and useful to someone who is just starting to dip their feet into the field. That said, if you are already well versed in leadership concepts this book will likely only serve to be a refresher of things you already "know," but I'd add that that might not be a bad thing as it does frame leadership in a somewhat unique way.Overall I would recommend this book, particularly if you are just starting a career, or if you are trying to grow into a leadership position. If you are a veteran leader, or have studied leadership in any real capacity I would still recommend this book , but would caution you that you will likely be bored by it.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

That the information presented was delivered nicely, but was largely un-remarkable in terms of novel content.

Which character – as performed by Wayne Shepherd – was your favorite?

Not Applicable; there are not really "characters" in this book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No.

Any additional comments?

I had to read this book for work, and was able to finish it during a commute listening to it at twice speed, which was very helpful. This could be a helpful book to recommend to subordinates at work and discus in-order to engender a healthier work culture, or a more pro-active work culture.

The audio book is missing major parts from the actual book

I was using this audio book to help me read along with the actual book when I noticed it skips over the whole second second about challenges that leaders face.

It also skips over crucial examples that the author gives to help understand the topics being discussed in the book.

I am severely disappointed in the audio version of this book and this will most likely affect if I will renew my subscription after my trial.
