Summary

A war to enslave the population. A prison planet designed for blood sport. The Sovereign Empire’s power was a lie.

Brutally trained his entire short life to be a Sovereign Elite and defend the Empire, Azrael instead finds himself a prisoner. Not even eight years old, and without system access, Azrael is abandoned on Tech Duinn. He must rely on his hunting trainers to keep his identity secret. There is no doubt that if people learn his last name, he would wake up in the arena...if he woke up at all.

While fleeing the takeover of Mur, the group discovers how deep despair can drag them. Soon, only the praise of the bloody mob in the Arena Pit Dungeon keeps them alive. Surviving seems impossible, yet Azrael vows to not only live, but to find a way off-world.

Azrael lives only because of applause. Others will die for it. Death or escape is the only way out of the cycle.

Great beginning to a new series

This series is like a prequel to Ether Collapse but happens far back in time. I really enjoyed it

Phenomenal tie in series

My favorite thing about GameLIT is the expansive universes it allows you to see, but often you are left wondering more about the past, side characters, or little Easter eggs mentioned. Nothing, and I mean nothing, excited me more seeing a prequel tie in line to this main series. I cannot wait to listen to more about Azreal and what happened to Lead to the Ether vanishing from the Gia solar system. This book does an excellent job of setting it up, and gives a nice reprieve to the post apocalyptic setting of the main series. Definitely worth a listen, and a can’t miss if you’ve liked the main series.

Love the world he is Creating

I have really gotten into this style of fantasy and the biggest selling point for me is the world in which these events take place. Ryan DeBruyn has done a great job making an exciting world in which I just want o keep listing to and learning more about. I have listened to all his books and will immediately buy any books he comes out with Great work!

Great start to a supporting story line

I enjoyed this start to a new story within the Ether Collapse universe. It's a fresh look at the gaming system and the greater story at large. I very much look forward to the next installment.

new series in existing world

the story works on its own and is great, but in some areas it's obvious that readers who have read the other story will have a far better grasp of what is happening.
several times I felt like I was missing details to understand completely.
still, the feeling of the world being alive and things happening around the MC was a great experience that I recommend to anyone.

Steve is great, his range exactly what this book needed as many other narrators couldn't keep that many characters seperat and destinct

Once I got into it I couldn't put it down.

Lots of action and a very slow development of the characters due to the nature of his training. I don't normally like prequels or side stories since it can take an author down a path of everything being lost. I am waiting on 2 books now the original series and this one.

Fantastic Prequel

This series is a fantastic prequel to the main series while being stand alone. The author did a great job showing how the magic systems in the world evolve and changed to the previous version, without getting technical or over the top.

The narrator is a perfect fit for the series as well.

My only complaint is now that I've read this one, I have to reread the other books about the universe and look at them anew. I love when series interact like this, but only when they're this well done.

This book is great.

Main Character is intelligent and tactically minded. And watching his character growth is great as well.
