About this listen

How far would you go to protect the ones you love? And how much further would you go to betray them?

Nine out of ten murders are committed by someone the victim knows. So when Steph Ryder is found dead, DS Allie Shenton begins her investigation close to home, starting with Steph’s family and friends.

Soon the lies, backtracking and secrets multiply as each of the suspects tries to cover up their actions on that fateful night. Before long, Allie homes in on Steph’s ambitious and powerful husband, Terry. Convinced he’s hiding something, she interviews him again and again, each time seeing through his smooth charms.

As the trail grows hotter, the web of deceit pulls tighter and more bodies pile up. Allie must race against time to uncover the shocking truth of who killed Steph before the suspects get away with murder.

Set within the gritty streets of Stoke-on-Trent, this fast-paced British detective novel is a dark murder mystery with an emotional pull.

Taunting the Dead is the first novel in the Allie Shenton series of crime thrillers from the million selling British author, Mel Sherratt, and perfect for fans of DS Butler, LJ Ross, Angela Marsons, Joy Ellis, Rachel McClean, Caroline Mitchell and Meg Jolly.

A nice twist at the end that made me want the next book to see where it goes

The narrator’s voice is pleasant to listen to.

I found it difficult to remember which unpleasant character was which until I was well into the story. They all seemed much of a type. Lots of twists and a good story.

Numerous characters

What’s not to like about some events, some victims of kind and more culprits and suspects than healthy? It was a round about of killers or not at times until I got dizzy but ended with some big surprise and some resolution. It was a bit too much at times though. It left some loose ends conveniently to pick up for more but it didn’t feel right for the environment and the location or cluster of characters.
That can happen though for starts of series to lay some ground picture. I still enjoyed it and will give the next book a go.

A convincing mess of people

Some parts were a little far fetched
A woman police Sargent wouldn't let someone make advances towards her

Acceptable for a story that I didn't have to use a credit for

Hasn’t really portrayed Stoke as there is no mention of monkey dust so far 😁 it’s an apocalypse now, the accents weren’t accurate but again how would you even start … thank you for trying 👌🏻
