About this listen

Bloomsbury presents Tart by Slutty Cheff, read by Charly Clive.

‘It’s the two best things in the world: food and sex.’

Slutty Cheff is an anonymous London chef who knows what it’s really like to work in the capital's hectic restaurant scene.

From working sixty-hour weeks in windowless kitchens and being the only woman in the changing room to the pure thrill of a busy service, falling in love with other chefs and cycling home through a city bubbling over with potential, Slutty Cheff’s misadventures in food and sex are about experiencing and embracing life to the fullest. The pleasure and the chaos included . . .

An exquisite broth of raw Anthony Bourdain-style honesty with a pinch of the sharp wit of Lena Dunham’s Girls, Tart Is THE book for those who like to eat and f--k.

‘I devoured this book like a ravenous customer and I love it wildly. It’s the most visceral food and sex writing out there – utterly delicious and utterly new.’ Lena Dunham

‘A young Anthony Bourdain which we haven’t seen in female food writing before – visceral, hedonistic and gutsy.’ Dolly Alderton

I enjoyed this book more than I expected. I no nothing about cooking except for the ability to work a microwave for the likes of chicken ding. Anon chef stories were honest, real, emotional and intense at times but, always with humour and honesty. thought the book finished too soon but, then I remembered this author isn’t very old, only being in her 20s. I expect there will be more diaries to come whatever she decides to do with her life.

I really enjoyed the style and the raw and honest narrative. Enjoyed it and would read more.

Honest and raw

I wanted to love this book. I hoped to feel myself in that windowless kitchen, to see, taste and smell the dishes created. All I ended up getting was a pile of self-indulgent nonsens. I must give cudos to Charly Clive, who did the best job she could of narating this terrible mess of a book.

Unbelievably Bad.

I can't really describe how bad this book is. The writing is repetitious and barely edited. The descriptions of kitchen life is fascinating but the badly written porn interludes are truly cringe
The narrator does a great job with mediochre material
