Summary

Gavin is the perfect rockstar front man - moody, confident, and sexy as hell. But no matter how famous he becomes, he can't shake the heartache of his childhood. Only Sophie can take the edge off.

Sophie falls for Gavin the moment she realizes his swagger is just a front to hide his wounded core. All she wants is to save him from himself. And once she gives him her heart, she never gets it back.

She makes him feel...seen; he makes her feel needed. It's a desperate kind of love, but it's what works for them.

Until it doesn't.

When the tabloids get a hold of Gavin's family secret, the backlash threatens everything he holds dear...including his relationship with Sophie. It doesn't help matters that the band's gorgeous guitarist is ready to step in and be what Sophie needs.

With their life together burning out, Gavin and Sophie must decide if their white-hot connection can be reignited....or if it will consume them.

Irish narrator Lee Brophy does an amazing job bringing this story to life. Playing at Love, the second book in the series, is now available!

umm.. broke my heart

This story was so realistic, it broke my heart, and put it back together with band aids. the cracks are still there though. I found this a hard story to listen to. The writing and story are so real, and capture you so completely, that I empathized with the characters. Some of those tough situations were a bit much for my fragile heart. That being said. This is a great story. I wanted to slap Gavin upside the head several times. Sophie went through so much. Man.

Wow

I do love a good rockstar romance novel, and this one definitely fits that bill. It spans over several years from when they met in high school to ten years into their marriage, you get to follow not only their struggles but the band mates as well. Ends on a note that will have you wanting to grab book 2 immediately though. I loved the narrator, and how he incorporated the accent just right!

Rocked this story

I have to say that this was not what I was expecting to read as a rock star romance. This book doesn't just focus on one rock star but an entire band and the connection the friends have. I loved how this story starts out in highschool so you can see the characters growth throughout the book. I feel like seeing the growth you really get to know the characters. Also by not just focusing on one couple it makes book 2 way more interesting to see where it might go. I loved this because it's so much more then a rock star romance.

Feels like a t.v. exposé at times

Tangled Up in You is book 1 of the Rogue series. This book is about the lives of the band Rogue and follows them from childhood friends and bandmates to super-fame status. This is the first experience that I have had with this author. I would probably try something else by her again sometime.

It was a bit of a slow start for me but then I got sucked in for quite a while and didn't want to stop listening. But then around half way through, I started to realize that this book wasn't really going anywhere and it definitely wasn't the rockstar romance that I had thought it was. This book is more of a what happens after the quick romance of two of the main characters, Sophie and Gavin who fell in love at 16 then lost touch and re-connected at around 18/19 and then quickly got married. It became more of a chronicle of the characters lives over years and honestly it started became a bit monotonous for me. The biggest issue was that I wasn't able to connect with the characters. Perhaps it was the POV used or the fact that we never really spent any amount of time on any particular thing. The book is over 80 chapters long and many of the chapters are super short since it was bouncing from one thing to another. It was more of a highlights reel for their lives. We got the gist of what was happening and how they felt but then we were quickly moved to another moment in time.

The book is told in 3rd person POV and primarily bounces from Sophie, Gavin, and Connor's POV. At times it was omniscient and a bit exposé sounding when there would be lines talking about how, "little did they know, this picture would become iconic". It really became kind of like a weird tell-all celebrity in depth TV show. At times it worked and other times it did not.

There are a ton of pop culture references in this book. And at times it seemed as though headlines from those celebrity gossip magazines were used as part of the story.

Around 65% in, I was feeling pretty done with the book. I decided at that time to check out the reviews so I could find some spoilers and decide if I should force myself to finish. After reading things that would happen next, I went ahead and called it quits around 70%. I don't want to hear more of what happens. Especially since I saw that there is no resolution to this story, only that it will continue on in the next book. Unfortunately, I am going to give the rest of this series a hard pass. It isn't for me.

Usually I won't rate a book that I don't finish but I invested enough time with this book that it warrants a review and rating.

And even though this book wasn't for me, doesn't mean it won't be for you. There was nothing wrong with this book, I don't even dislike it. It was literally a case of it's me, not you. I just couldn't connect with the characters or the story and no longer wanted to continue when it became clear that it was more of a tell-all and overview of many years worth of their lives. Plus the whole betrayal of your best-friend/practically brother, just wasn't something I wanted to see from these characters.

As far as the narration is concerned, this narrator was really good. He did a great job. I enjoyed listening to him. His voices and accents were great and it was easy to determine which character was speaking. I would definitely listen to this narrator again.

Not for me but might be the perfect book for you

I feel like this could be a great book for someone else, it just wasn't it for me. There were alot of things that bothered me on a personal level. Before you go in, be aware that this book is written in 3 different POVs and you are not aware of the change in POV until you start reading.

As far as narration goes, I understand that the 2 male characters are Irish, but the narrator has a very thick accent and I found it to be distracting more times than not. I had to backtrack a number of times just to figure out what was being said.

Full of feels!!

I love a good first love story especially when they’re put through the wringer! The storyline was touching. Lee Brophy made is so listeners can felt the emotions. I mean, I might have wanted to yell a few times… I mean, really? Are you even paying attention?!!? Open up and look around! I was left feeling me confused… am I really pulling/rooting for Gavin?!?! You’ll are gonna feel and LOVE this one! The connection is real. The amazing love story and rock stars… super models… can you go wrong?

Gavin and Sophie are such raw, intense, and strong characters. Totally not your normal rock star book!! All these characters are so multi-dimensional. I mean, Colin, Gavin, and Sophie and all the other secondary characters have suffered. Enjoy the feels!

Fun and entertaining!

Fun and entertaining. Being a SoCal native I loved the setting, and having just returned from a European vacation. I enjoyed the visualization of the scene in Paris. The characters are relatable and true to theirselves. I had fun and I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

Excellent First Book

I received this audiobook free for an honest review. This was a very exciting book. Gavin and Sophie have a great romance. There are some great ups and some crazy downs. For such a young romance, can time withstand their love? I have to say that this story left me hanging in the end, but I'm hoping the author will convert her second book to audio soon. I hate having to move on to another book and not finish this series. The author did a great job with the character and story development. The narrator did an excellent job with the characters and their personalities.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. The fact that I was gifted this book had no influence over my opinion of it.

Wow this is an amazing book.

Wow. This book is well worth the read but the audio version with Lee Bropy is a very swoon worthy listen.

This story spans many years with many characters but it is easy to follow.

I love these characters and will definitely be continuing with the series.

Get ready to feel!

Rockstar romances can be fun and flirty, your typical singer finds the wallflower. Not the case with this one! Lara Ward Cosio takes you back to high school, when Sophie and Gavin were students, the band just starting out and their love strong. Circumstances as they are, the two are separated and when they are brought back together, life will never be the same. For me when I listen, I get drawn in, living the life of the characters as the story goes on. These two are on an emotional roller coaster, and I took the ride with them. Their love is so strong, it's easy to feel it, their pain so real, it made my heart hurt. From Ireland to California, with the members of the band whom I love, and the lifestyle they all live, I took the journey hoping to get to Gavin and Sophie's happy ending, but there is more in store for this couple, and I can't wait to hear it!

All I can say is WOW to the narration. This is my first book with Lee Brophy and he is amazing. Bringing has an amazing Irish brogue to the band right along with a switch to a female American is simply extraordinary. He is expressive and emotional as he brings the story to life. I will definitely be watching for more from this talented narrator.

So many feels and great narration! 5 Stars.

Wow. This book was such an emotionally charged ride. We get to experience Sophie and Gavin’s relationship journey from teen love affair to full fledge adult relationship and all the highs and lows in between. It was an emotional, difficult, sometimes painful, but ultimately beautiful love. That was my favorite thing about Tangled Up In You: the raw and realness of the story. Yes, it’s a love story, but the pain feels true, the emotions are so real, and the love can be felt a mile away. Sophie and Gavin broke my heart, but Lara Ward Cosio did beautiful work of piecing it back together little by little. The writing is exquisitely honest, the characters well developed, and the story grabs you and doesn’t let go. This story doesn’t have a HEA yet, but I’m beyond anxious to get to the next book and see what’s in store for Gavin and Sophie.

Narration by Lee Brophy was amazing! This was my introduction to his work and I was beyond I’m pressed. His Irish accent was delicious and effortless. His performance as Gavin was everything. He brought the rockstar to life and had me swooning, cheering, crying, and falling for him over and over again. Mr. Brophy managed to give so many characters distinction and made nearly ten hours of audio breeze on by. I’m really, really hoping that he returns to narrate the following book because he did such a phenomenal job. He is Gavin! Plus, I just need more of that incredibly seductive voice in my life. 5 Stars.
