Summary

Mercedes Lackey's triumphant return to the bestselling world of Valdemar, Take a Thief reveals the untold story of Skif - a popular character from Lackey's first published novel, Arrows of the Queen.

Skif was an orphan who would have died from malnutrition and exposure if he had never met Deke the pickpocket.

By the time he was twelve, Skif was an accomplished cat burglar.

But it wasn't until he decided to steal a finely tacked-out white horse, which was, oddly enough, standing unattended in the street, that this young thief discovered that the tables could turn on him-and that he himself could be stolen!

Love it.

Once again a excellent book. I love hearing about the back story of some characters in herold series. Good reading by Paul Woodson but I would have liked more definition between the characters.

love the story

I have read this book many times and it was a nice reading of the story. however, the reader pronounces words a little differently and my head kept fixing the pronunciation.

Intriguing.

I definitely enjoyed. the twist and turns had been worried about Skif. I am glad I was wrong and all worked out well with some great lessons on life.

Surprised

I liked the reader. I didn’t expect to. I liked the way he pronounced some words, different than I do, but I eventually decided his way was better. Easy voice to listen to.

well this is one of my favorite books I have read it at least three times and now I have listened to it I would recommend this book but the person reading this book I would not recommend he did not get the voice of a young boy anywhere near correct other voice actors have done a much better job in this series but overall still buy this book the story is worth it

One of my favorites

The story of Skif is an intriguing tale that goes from the slums of Valdamar to the Queen's court. it follows a young thief as he is chosen through his hilarious choosing, to the nail biting ending where he shows his true strength and character as a hero. After reading it numerous times, having it read to me while I am otherwise engaged is an absolute pleasure. Thank you, Audible.

Finally, my favorite, and it didn't disapoint!

I read this book years ago and have been hoping it would come to Audible. It finally has and I like it as much as the read. Still a good story, only now complemented by a good performance. Skif (the main character) falls on hard times...well harder times and is "rescued." No real spoilers, but things go well, until they don't. Grab this one and find out more. Ties in with Exile's Honor and Exile's valor, so if you like those, grab this one. If not, this book stands on it's own well. All you need to know to enter Mercedes Lackey's world of Valdemar is right here. Take a leap and enjoy.

Great!

The story of an orphan who finds himself like Oliver Twist to become a thief apprentice. He takes to the life with glee until tragedy strikes.

I liked it

Great background on Skif (one of my favorite characters in the Arrows of the Queen series). Not an abundance of action but a pleasant listen.
